Engineer, New Technology and Standards Video IP Technology The New Technology and Standards department is at the forefront of technology developments in the area of audio, video and data broadcasting via satellite. The department closely works with the industry and participates in standardization organisations to define, design and implement next generation broadcast architectures. This department has a special focus on all aspects related to consumer reception equipment innovation from satellite antennas, to satellite distribution, IP networking, satellite receivers, modems and display devices. As a member of the SES Transmission Reception Systems team, you carry out technical studies, concept engineering, specification and tests, endtoend system implementation related to RF, IP and video aspects of transmission and reception systems as well as digital broadcast and networking matters of enhanced communication systems. The role places strong emphasis on innovation and the introduction of new Video and IP technologies. PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES KEY RESULT AREAS Maintain awareness of, study and evaluate new techniques and components for the transmission of video, audio and data signals, including multimedia applications and interactive services Evaluate and customize the application of equipment, technologies and systems e.g DVBS2, DVBS2X, DVBRCS2,.. and support the preparation of corresponding concepts, specifications and recommendations to SES and its market partners Evaluate the impact of changes to the overall transmission system satellite characteristics, cost saving aspects, interference on existing services Implement enhanced broadcasting techniques and systems according to specifications Actively participate in and contribute to the work of international standardization organisations, as required Provide technical support to the industry for the development of systems and components for transmission, reception and networking Support other tasks as required. Technology Flight Engineer J 2998 Summary An opportunity for an experienced Space Engineer to work for Telespazio VEGA onsite at ESTEC. Objective To support the Technology Coordination Frequency Management Section for future earth observation missions. Responsibilities Duties The Technology Coordination and Frequency Management Section EOPSFT is responsible for two main tasks. First, the identification of technology requirements for future Earth Observation missions. A solid collaboration with the other divisions in the EO directorate and ESAs technical directorate is essential for this work. The nature of the work requires a wide knowledge in engineering disciplines with a natural inclination for learning and understanding new technologies. Second, the analysis and monitoring of the evolution of frequency needs for EO missions, including early concepts and potential interference conflicts with other communication services sharing the spectrum. DUTIES The Future Missions Office SCIF is in charge of mission preparation activities and Small Missions for the Directorate of Science. The Technology Preparation Section is responsible for the identification and implementation of the enabling technologies for future science missions. Under the authority of the Head of the Technology Preparation Section, the post holders areas of responsibility will include leading the development of technologies required for future ESA science missions as defined in the Cosmic Vision Programme, with emphasis on Lclass missions contributing to the elaboration of a longterm strategic technology programme preparing potential future science missions specifying and implementing technology development activities assisting in the coordination of technology developments and planning across ESA and with external parties providing technology support to future mission candidate assessment and mission preparation participation in technical reviews and working groups, supporting mission assessment and implementation monitoring technology developments and trends relevant to future science missions.
