Space Applications Services performs and supports system and software engineering for the European Space Agency ESA, National Space Agencies and the aerospace industry. We are involved in international manned unmanned spacecraft programmes, earth observation, science, exploration, communications and related technology development. We require staff, wishing to join our team in Zaventem Brussels to work in a dynamic international environment for the following position Attitude and Orbit Control Systems Engineer mf Tasks and Responsibilities The work will be performed at the European Space Research and Technology Centre ESTEC in Noordwijk, The Netherlands. The main tasks and responsibilities will include The Control Systems and Sensors section has the following roles and responsibilities Definition and implementation of AOCS Attitude and Orbit Control Systems for Earth Observation, Telecom, Navigation satellites and for Astronomy Observatories. The functional support provided to these projects includes o Participation to project reviews SRR, PDR CDR, . o AOCS design, analyses and simulations control loops design and modelling, FDIR, independent simulator setup, functional verification and performance budgets. o Review of AOCS SW implementation. o Sensors and actuators selection and procurement support. o AIVAIT support test benches, review of test plans and test results. o Operations support review of Operations Manual, rehearsal and LEOP. o Support to inorbit analysis. Conception, initialisation and supervision of corresponding enabling AOCS technology RD High Accuracy Pointing, Generic AOCS Architecture Building Blocks, Innovative AOCS FDIR Solutions including prototyping and tools development. Sensors and inertial actuators technology development APS, Star Trackers, sun sensors, Earth sensors, magnetometers, gyros, accelerometers, magnetotorquers, reaction wheels, CMGs. Development and utilisation of the Control Hardware Laboratory e.g. sensor characterisation and testing. Maintenance, development and setup of AOCS simulation tools. Participation to the elaboration and promotion of ECSS standards in the E60 domain. Qualifications and Experience A University degree MSc in Control and Aerospace engineering. At least 6 years of proven experience in the design, tuning, analysis and simulation of AOCS systems in different project phases. HW knowledge sensors, computer, actuators. AOCS AIT at subsystem and system level. Proven knowledge of commercial modelbased design tools MATLAB. Furthermore you should Be able to interface with industry and to operate in a team environment, Present good interpersonal, reporting and communication skills and a proactive attitude to solving problems. The following capabilities are required for the post Solid theoretical background in one or more of the following areas control, estimation, flightorbital dynamics, optimization Practical experience in aeronauticalaerospace guidance or navigation or control experience in ESAEuropean programmes is welcome Knowledge of MatlabSimulink and good programming skills Desired Experience in satellite rendezvous, LEO and interplanetary AOCS, launcher programs, hybrid Navigation or AITAIV would be viewed very positively Skills Good level of English, spoken and written Capability to integrate in and work within a team Autonomy and selfdevelopment Responsibility towards the customer and colleagues Team leader if experience above 45 years
