Specific tasks to be performed Support the initiation of activities related to technology and product development for payload applications. Support the establishment and control of relevant ESA requirements, specifications and general documentation. Evaluation, support to negotiation, monitoring and control of development contracts and activities. Preparation of inputs to status reports. Contribute to the preparation of technology and product development work plans. Support other members of the section on their projects and share expertise within the section. Monitor market and technology trends and developments in the area of satellite communication. Cooperate with specialists in other ESA departments. Identify any issues during the procurement phase, the running or closing of an activity, and flag them for attention in a timely manner. Support the timely preparation of papers for Adjudication Committee meetings or Delegate bodies IPC, JCB, with high quality standards. Provide inputs for the Department Business Intelligence management system. Support TIA communication activities in line with the ESA TIA Communication Policy rules. Follow the relevant and applicable ISO procedures. Maintain the required level of confidentiality and security as defined in the ESA Security Directives. To successfully perform the above mentioned tasks, the following background experience is required The post holder shall be an experienced person who has a Master or PhD degree or equivalent qualification in engineering and experience in payload technology and products for telecommunication satellites. General experience with the design, analysis, qualification, testing and implementation of satellite payload equipment for telecommunication satellites, with substantial experience in one or more of the following management of development contracts for satellite payload equipment. design, development andor exploitation of antenna, digital or RF units, such as low noise amplifiers channel amplifiers and linearisers power amplifiers frequency converters digital signal processors A sound knowledge of multiple different types of payload equipment and their functions at payload level is desirable. About ESA ECSAT The European Centre for Space Applications and Telecommunications ECSAT is ESAs new facility in the United Kingdom. It is based at the Harwell Science, Innovation and Business Campus in Oxfordshire. ECSAT is the most recent addition to ESAs operational sites across Europe. For our customer, ESOC in Darmstadt, Germany, we are seeking for a Satellite OPSSAT Experiment Infrastructure Engineer. As a flying laboratory, ESAs OPSSAT is testing and validating new techniques in mission control and onboard systems. Responsibilities As part of the OPSSAT flight control team, you will participate in the spacecraft operations preparation and conduction, with focus on the creating, documenting, testing and validating the OPSSAT Experiment infrastructure. The activities will include Supporting the spacecraft operations by planning passes, analyzing telemetry, preparing and testing procedures Supporting the OnBoard SW OBSW development and planning the release of new SW versions Testing new releases of the OBSW on the Engineering Model EM, coordinating the changes required to the existing procedures with the rest of the team Conducting offline design review of experiments and provide feedback on their feasibility Conducting tests on the EM with different experimenters and provide feedback Studying the OPSSAT specific onboard system on module SoM including all hardware and software interfaces with special attention to the Cyclone V FPGA Supporting the creation of the infrastructure required to support OPSSAT Experimenters using the SoM effectively, with special attention on how to integrate experiments into the Cyclone V FPGA. Producing technical documentation and procedures Producing training documentation Producing the necessary onboard infrastructure in terms of software and VHDL code to be used as a standard template for OPSSAT experimenters Producing the necessary ground infrastructure to test and validate experiments on the ground before loading to the spacecraft Producing example experiments to prove the concept and to use as guides for OPSSAT experimenters Providing general and technical support in Experimenter coordination This is a fulltime position to be located at ESOCs premises in Darmstadt with the planned start date 1st July 2021.
