DISCUSSION AND 48-HOUR OUTLOOK ------------------------------ At 500 AM AST (0900 UTC), the center of Post-Tropical Cyclone Gaston was located near latitude 40.5 North, longitude 26.9 West. The post-tropical cyclone is moving toward the east-northeast near 17 mph (28 km/h), and this general motion is expected today. A turn toward the northeast with some further increase in forward speed is expected by tonight. Maximum sustained winds have decreased to near 35 mph (55 km/h) with higher gusts. Additional weakening is likely, and Gaston is expected to dissipate on Sunday. The estimated minimum central pressure is 1006 mb (29.71 inches). HAZARDS AFFECTING LAND ---------------------- SURF: Swells generated by Gaston should continue affecting portions of the Azores today, but should diminish tonight and Sunday.
