In partnership with Observatory of Paris, ODYSSEUS Space is working on Optical Communications. We are looking for an Optical Communication Engineer based in our new office in Luxembourg to work collaboratively with a young, international and talented team on what will be the space technologies of tomorrow. Description of the Job As an Optical Communication Engineer part of ODYSSEUS Space team in Technoport Belval belval.lu, you will be working on the design, manufacturing, testing and validation of our optical bench towards product development. In addition, you shall also contribute to a variety of work packages such as requirements evaluation, mission conceptualization, simulation, depending on skills and career path. In direct interaction with academic experts, ODYSSEUS Space engineers, students, interns, and upper management in a dynamic an international environment you will actively contribute to the development of an optical communication system. Design, simulation andor laboratory experience in freespace andor fibre optical communications systems is expected. Complimentary experience in one or more of the following fields are strong assets for the job space systems engineering, electronics, mechanics, software andor product development. Summary An opportunity for an experienced engineer to work onsite at ESTEC for Telespazio VEGA UK in the Institutional and European Programme Office in the DTIA Directorate supporting activities in optical communications and secure satcom. Objective In support and reporting to the ScyLight Programme Manager the postholder will coordinate the activities required for settingup future Institutional and European telecommunications Programmes Initiatives Activities in the area optical communications IntraSatellite, Satellite connections between Satellites, Ground, or Airborne and applicationsservices as well as in the area of secure satcom for safety and security, research programs H2020, Horizon Europe, partnership programmes. The activities notably include the support of preparatory activities, actions and implementation in cooperation and cooperation with the relevant stakeholders Industry, National Agencies, EU Institutions. Responsibilities Duties Duties will include but are not limited to Supporting the Project preparation and implementation and managing industrial activities Provide support to the ScyLight Programme ManagerSystem EngineerTechnical Leads in coordinating ESA internal studies and preparing the associated documentation. In particular as support to the ScyLight Programme Manager the tasks will include Support to preparatory activities in the course of defining and setting up new programme elements and the related programmatic frameworks Support in the creation of information packages to Decision Makers and industrial partners. Support in the creation of internal or external decision documents e.g. proposals to the ESA programme boards throughout the relevant project lifetime. Identification and characterisation of new services and applications. Support to other projects or Directorates of ESA for the definition and operational assessment of applications and services. Support to standardisation activities in specific areas. Monitoring of and reporting about activities in other ARTES Elements or other relevant programmes including EC programmes Initiation, preparation and running promotion activities, like workshops with Industry, other agencies or National Delegation as well as media related activities e.g. webarticles Initiation of andor participation in international working groups Qualifications Experience Minimum of MSc in Telecommunications or relevant field of study. At least 4 years relevant industrial experience. Proven capabilities in preparation of programmatic frameworks requiring system and strategic thinking. Experience Optical Technologies Space andor terrestrial. Relevant experience in requirements analysis, design, implementation and operations, and associated management experience. Sound knowledge of the overall space market. Essential Skills Ability to work both autonomously and as part of a team within the boundaries of assigned tasks and a stringent schedule Experience in an international team is required. Fluency in English is required, including the ability to draft technical reports. Good communication skills, problem solving skills and be able to manage relationships, work in a team and be selfmotivating and disciplined. Candidate should also possess very good interpersonal skills, be wellorganised, proactive, selfmotivated and able to work effectively in a matrix structure.
