For the location in Darmstadt, Germany we are looking for an EPSSG Radio Occultation Science Support fm at Eumetsat. Tasks The EPSSG programme has started its phase B, during which the user and system requirements are being consolidated in iteration with the users, and different system concepts to implement these requirements are elaborated and tradedoff. The activities of the Key person will include scientific aspects related to the development of the product processing facilities of the EPSSG ground segment. The Key person will work in a matrix structure providing crossdivisional support and be hosted in the Remote Sensing and Products Division of the Technical and Science Support Department. Preparation of algorithm theoretical basis documents for the generation of level 1 and selected level 2 products Preparation of product generation specifications for the product processing facilities Prototyping of product generation functions Generation of product contents specifications Preparation of test data Preparation of initial validation plans Contribution to the generation of performance budgets Conduct of internal studies related to mission requirements refinements Assessment of results from external studies Contribution to the initiation of scientific support studies System meetings and activities of instrument functional chain teams IFCT1 Participation in reviews Essential requirements The Key person shall have the experience and capability to fulfil the assigned tasks with a minimum level of supervision. The duties range from the support to the operation of the TCE, to the analysis, design, development, testing and maintenance of distributed hardware and system software platforms. This includes the settingup and implementation of maintenance policies and procedures, the support to the procurement of hardware and software, and the coordination with external providers of maintenance services. The Key person shall perform the following tasks installation and configuration of operating system and other software, tuning of operating systems parameters to optimize performance analysis, planning and carrying out of HW and SW upgrades or reconfigurations, taking care of compatibility issues between subsystems monitoring of the system performance, investigation into HW and system SW problems and carrying out the relevant corrective actions provision of firstlevel support to the users of the system ensuring that in case of HW or system SW failures the operational configuration can be restored, including the definition, maintenance, carrying out of backup procedures coordination with shared infrastructures, e.g. networks, storage network infrastructure SNI, for operations and maintenance liaison with the external providers of HW and system SW maintenance for the request and follow up of maintenance interventions administration and installation of databases administration of user accounts support to SW development and maintenance in relation to the utilization of system resources implementation and maintenance of scripts andor procedures where applicable for the automated andor controlled execution of the above activities, generation or update of technical documentation in relation to system upgrades provision of standbyoncall support if needed under special circumstances provision of support, as required, to critical operations. In the performance of the activities the Key person shall apply the relevant change control and maintenance procedures. PROFILE In addition to having a university degree or equivalent in a relevant discipline, the key person shall have extensive experience in the administration and troubleshooting of distributed systems. The experience should have been made in an operational or production environment, characterized by custom applications in addition to standard software, running both on the client and server side, and by high availability requirements. The Key person shall have an expert knowledge and a significant work experience of the UNIX operating systems, and should be familiar, to the extent required by the performance of the above tasks, with as many as possible of the following system software environments on IBM computers AIX, configuration of pseries servers, GPFS, TSM backup, NIM on DELL computers SuSE Linux andor RedHat Linux Virtualization based on VMWare products Network based on Ethernet EMC RAID arrays and virtual appliances SAN technology TCPIP internetworking and the related network protocols and applications, e.g. NIS, NFS, DNS, SNMP, FTP on Sun computers Solaris operating systems Experience in some of the following areas shall be considered as an advantage Installation and maintenance of ORACLE databases Maintenance of an Online Documentation system FirstSecond Level user support. Automatic Service Provisioning using Cloud technologies. It is also an advantage if the key person can carry out basic hardware support like installing interface cards or physically setting up networks. The variety of the tasks and the scope of the systems to be supported require a high degree of autonomy and good analytical skills. Main duties are the operation of the MSG Central Facility CF and the EPS Mission Control System MCS, and supporting operational use of Mission Control Facility MCF Tools and the mission controlrelated multimission tools. The role comprises a range of tasks including the provision of support to the routine operation of the MCS, and the interfaces between the MCS and other components of the EPS Core Ground Segment CGS. The Key Person will be responsible for the definition andor maintenance of the routine operations procedures pertaining to the operation of the MCS and these interfaces, in accordance with the established EUMETSAT Operations Department configuration management and quality assurance practices. In addition, the Key Person will acquire and maintain a Systemwide view of the MSG System, and the EPS CGS and OGS, particularly in the areas of system monitoring control and data flows, due to the central role the CF and MCS play in the MSG and EPS Systems. The Key Person will review any planned changes to the system configuration and the investigation of anomalies encountered through the routine operation of the CF and MCS. The Key Person will provide oncall support as part of a team of MCS engineers. The Key Person will provide support to the development and operations preparation for recurrent satellites in existing operational programs, and for future operational programs now in development. The Key Person will perform the following tasks Support to routine operations Definition and maintenance of missioncontrol operations procedures, including System and ground segment procedures and operations guides Liaison with the spacecraft operations team to ensure the continuity and optimisation of spacecraft monitoring and control activities Liaison with the operations analysts to ensure continuity and optimisation of databaserelated activities Interface with other facilities within the operational ground segments to ensure the continuity and optimisation of ground segment and mission monitoring and control activities Interface with external elements of the operational Ground Segments to ensure the continuity and optimisation of data exchanges with the mission control systems Interface with the mission control systems maintenance team and industry representatives to ensure optimised performance, including participating in the definition and implementation of any changes Provision of support to operational ground segment analyses Provision of standbyoncall support as part of a team of MCS engineers Provision of support, as required, to critical operations Processing of system anomalies, their documentation, investigation, classification and resolutionmitigation, including participation in Anomaly Review Boards Participation in further technical meetings, formal reviews, and scheduling and planning meetings. Processing of system modifications, including their documentation, approval, and implementation, including participation in Change Review Boards Support to, and participation in, the functional verification and operational validation of mission control systems and related elements, both standalone and in the context of an overall ground segment. Support to the preparations for recurrent satellites and future satellite programs Provision of support to the development and operations preparation for recurrent satellites in existing operational programmes such as MetopC and MSG4 Provision of support to the development and operations preparation for future operational programmes such as Sentinel3, MTG and EPSSG. Support to operations teams Provision of training, through written materials, practical demonstrations and presentations, to other members of the Operations Team. The tasks assigned to the Key Person will be agreed through dedicated workpackages with clear identification of activities and outputs expected. In the performance of these tasks, the Key Person shall apply the EUMETSAT configuration and change control procedures as well as the relevant system engineering standards, quality management procedures and maintenance procedures. PROFILE In addition to having a university degree or equivalent in a relevant technical discipline, the Key Person shall have the following mandatory attributes at least seven years work experience in the operation of spacecraft control systems at least five years work experience developing andor maintaining spacecraft mission control systems software at least five years work experience developing andor maintaining software for a UNIX operating system at least two years work experience with the SCOS spacecraft control system at least two years work experience defining and implementing the verification and validation of spacecraft mission control systems software. These service requests are issued in the form of Work Packages with a maximum effort allocation and cover activities which can be any of the following Development of a generic As Designed CM tool instance aimed to manage Changes and Configuration Items related to projects or programmes being developed by EUMETSAT feasibility studies, specification, development, documentation, installation and testing of the tool Improvement of existing generic As Built CM tool aimed to manage Changes and Configuration Items related to EUMETSAT Operational systems. PROFILE In addition to having a University degree in Computer Science, the Service Support Personnel providing the service shall have a minimum of three years experience in the field of Configuration Management, including build, deployment and installation processes on large softwareintensive highavailability operational systems. Sound practical experience with Configuration Management tools as Administrator or advanced user Serena Dimensions or Clearcase Database programmingSQL e.g. Oracle or Sybase SW development in Java, C, vb.net, python, perl or similar is mandatory. Practical experience with Configuration Management standards such as CMMI, ISO or ESA ECSS SW development environments e.g. Visual Studio Source code control tools CVS, SubVersion, would be considered as assets. The Service Support Personnel shall also have demonstrated very good communication and team working skills be able to conduct all activities in an orderly and disciplined manner, in particular when applying and supporting EUMETSAT As Designed and As Built Configuration Management standards be able to work calmly under stress with the minimum of supervision.
