Space Structures Support Engineer

Client and Location We are currently looking for candidates to lend support in the Directorate of Technical and Quality Management onsite at ESTEC in the Mechanisms Engineering Department. You will lend support to Agency projects, technology research activities and evaluations of industrial contractors documentation and test verifications. Tasks and Responsibilities The candidate shall have the following tasks and responsibilities Fluid Structures, Vibroacoustic and Shock Modelling and Analysis You shall be responsible for the generation and setup of dynamic mathematical models for fluidstructure interaction effects, vibroacoustic and shock response for spacecraft, launchers and instruments of Agency funded projects using the Finite Element, the Boundary Element, and the Statistical Energy Analysis method where applicable, taking into account the specific objectives of such analyses for incompressible and compressible fluids. The above shall include but not be limited to tanks with without membranes, solar arrays, spacecraft subsystem and system models. Shall further perform the dynamic analysis modes, frequency transient acoustic responses shock responses, evaluate critically the results and issue relevant documentation covering all analysis steps. Shall take into account the specific objectives of such analyses and where necessary nonlinear approaches shall be considered and specific solution sequences shall be developed. Shall support the Agency in the definition and implementation of technology developments in this area aiming at enhancing relevant tools and methodologies. Dynamic Test Data Analysis and Correlation You shall be responsible for the support to the Agency in operating analysis tools for the analysis of dynamic test data modal survey, frequency transient responses, shock responses for spacecraft launchers of Agency funded projects and comparison with analytical predictions. Shall further perform where relevant modal identification of the test data, evaluate critically the results and make usage of these results for updating structural finite element models. Shall perform where relevant, assessment of shock response data. Shall take into account the specific objectives of such analyses and where necessary nonlinear approaches shall be considered and specific solution sequences shall be developed. Shall issue relevant documentation covering all analysis steps. Where applicable he shall produce advanced reduced dynamic mathematical models. Generation of Load Cases for Static and Dynamic Structural Dimensioning The Contractor shall be responsible for the generation and setup of load cases for static and dynamic structural analysis design and tests for Agency funded projects. Heshe shall make use of mathematical model responses, Launcher Coupled Analysis results, MultiBody Dynamics analysis tools, as well as test flight data and be familiar with spacecraft design practices. Heshe shall evaluate critically the results and the loads and issue relevant documentation. Furthermore the following tasks are included The Contractor shall support the activities of development contracts regarding the above areas, including direct interfaces with the prime contractors, participate in progress meetings and reviews, as requested, and provide appropriate feedback on the achieved progress and discussions. Experience and education The candidate shall comply with the following requirements University degree or equivalent in mechanical or aeronautical engineering The Contractor Personnel responsible for the generation of the finite element mathematical models shall be a system analysts with several years of experience in the field of light structures dynamic behaviour and modelling, fluid structure interaction and vibroacoustic modelling. The Contractor Personnel responsible for the data processing, modal identification and structural model update shall be senior system analysts with several years of experience in the respective above fields applied to light structures dynamic behaviour and modelling. The Contractor Personnel shall be a system analyst with several years of experience in the field of structural dynamics, fluidstructure interaction and vibroacoustics, including modelling and model reduction techniques. HeShe shall have as well adequate knowledge in the employment of the relevant software, such as Nastran, Patran, Rayon, AutSEA, DynaWorks, SIMPACK, DCAP, FABE. Some experience with CAD software such as Catia5 would be an advantage. Additionally, some experience on fracture control and, in particular on fracture crack growth and fatigue analyses using ESACRACK and ESAFATIGUE would be an asset.

The key person will support the Geostationary Orbit GEO Division providing support to the Mission Operations System team. The tasks of the key person will typically include Support to the maintenance of MTG Mission Operations Facility requirement specification in the area of Monitoring Control System and liaison with the operational users for the definition of the requirements baseline. Follow up the MTG Monitoring and Control Subsystem MCS procurement to make sure that the delivery fits the intended purpose. Support the MTG ground segment team, the Mission Operations Facility manager and the ground segment manager. Interact with suppliers and partner organisations. Participation to the Reviews for the Monitoring and Control Subsystem and interfacing facilities. Participation test conduction and or witnessing to MTG Monitoring and Control Subsystem facilities testing and related activities on facility as well as on system level. Analysis of test results and test reports on facility as well as on system level in particular with respect to their suitability for requirement verification and validation. Track the MTG Monitoring and Control Subsystem test results, test reports and requirement verification status. Installation of the MTG Monitoring and Control Subsystem at EUMETSAT, while fulfilling the configuration management requirements. Verification of correct facility installation. Monitor and, where applicable, steer the lifecycle for all related anomaly reports ARs nonconformance reports NCRs. Preparation and production of routine reports as necessary. Preparation of technical notes and attendance at technical meetings. Analysis, review and generation of any relevant MTG documentation. Maintenance i.e. mainly configuration and installation of the SCOS 2000 MCS demonstrator installed for familiarisation of the operations preparation team with the Mission Operations Facility MCS. PROFILE In addition to having a University degree or equivalent in a relevant discipline, the key person shall have a demonstrated experience of spacecraft andor ground segment procurement. The key person shall have a goal oriented attitude with a good level of communication skills enabling working in a highly flexible integrated team. Furthermore, the key person shall have, as a prerequisite a demonstrated experience of five years in the following Mission Control Subsystem specifications development and or procurement within a space system. In depth knowledge of MICONYS SCOS 2000, FARC, PARC, etc. based Monitoring and Control Subsystems. The ECSS Packet Utilization PUS and CCSDS SLE Standard TM TC Database design, implementation and testing based on DABYS, mysql MariaDB. SCOS 2000 based onboard software function. AIV related activities test procedure generation, requirements verification and validation. Anomaly reports ARs nonconformance reports NCRs handling, investigation and discussion with clients as well as the supplier. Eclipse RCP RAP. Java, C and C. GIT Version Control software. UNIX operating system usage. It would be a distinct advantage for the key person to have experience with some of the following ECSS Space Engineering Standards, in particular those related to Mission Control. IBM DOORS. Within RSP Remote Sensing and Products Division, the key person will support the team of the Atmospheric and Imaging Applications AIA in the group responsible for the scientific AMV product development and implementation. The tasks of the Key person will typically include Algorithm software anomaly investigation and correction Design and implementation of algorithm enhancements or improvements Software feasibility analyses of proposed new product algorithms, or major algorithm upgrades Development of tools in support of product monitoring and product analysis, for example as part of EPS PPF product validation testing Preparation of technical documents on product implementation issues Preparation of technical notes and reports as required Attendance at technical and RSPAIA team meetings as required The focus of these tasks will primarily be on the AMV products extracted from both geostationary and polar orbit systems however, there may tasks related to other products for which the work of the key person may be partially allocated. Specifically the Key person shall have Proven experience in the design, implementation, and testing of complex scientific algorithm software Proven experience of software development in C, C and Fortran in a UNIX environment Proven experience in software development using data visualisation and analysis tools e.g. PYTHON, IDL Experience in configuration control of software and data Sound knowledge and experience in the area of Atmospheric Motion Vectors extraction from satellite imagery, or experience with image processing algorithms in the area of feature identification and tracking, or experience with optical flow methods would be a distinct advantage.
