ASTM Standard covers water vapor transmission in packaging.

ASTM International Committee F02 on Flexible Barrier Packaging is developing a new standard to test the transmission rate of water vapor into packaging materials, which is a key component for the shelf life of many products. Proposed standard WK49124, Test Method for Water Vapor Transmission Rate through Packages Using a Modulated Infrared Sensor, is based on another ASTM standard, F1249, that measures water vapor through plastic film and sheeting with pressure modulated infrared detector.

Proposed standard WK49230, Guide for Conducting Round Robin Studies for Additive Manufacturing, will describe how to plan and conduct interlaboratory study involving additive manufacturing processes or materials. Specifically, this standard will provide guidance to ensure process, logistics, and tools are identified and agreed upon in advance to manage round robin. Use of this standard could improve manufacture of complex parts used in aerospace and medical devices and other applications.

ASTM hosts cement conference and workshop in Kuwait.

ASTM International held 2-day training workshop on testing standards and quality control for the cement and concrete industry on April 27-28, 2015 in Kuwait City, Kuwait. Sponsored by the Kuwait Cement Co., event included training, education, and awareness of key ASTM standards that support all aspects of construction across Kuwait. More than 250 people from many ministries and companies attended each day.
