ASTM Small Airplane Standard supports technology, design, safety.

ASTM standard F3114, Specification for Structures, addresses structural airworthiness requirements of small airplanes. According to ASTM member Joel Heck, "requirements contained in the new standard are general in nature and apply to all areas of an airplane regardless of the type of component, system or structure." Primary users of this standard will be organizations that design and certify airplanes as well as design firms that modify existing planes.

Dr. Ralph Paroli begins term as ASTM Board Chairman.

Ralph M. Paroli, Ph.D. of the National Research Council of Canada has started his term as 2016 chairman of ASTM International board of directors. Since 2013, Paroli has served as director, research and development, in the Measurement Science and Standards Portfolio at NRC. Prior to that, he was director of Building Envelope and Structure at NRC’s Institute for Research in Construction. An ASTM member since 1994, Paroli has more than 30 years of experience in spectroscopy and thermal analysis.

ASTM Committee invites abstracts, participation for meeting.

ASTM International, American Society for Composites, Syracuse University, University of Utah, and National Institute of Aerospace will jointly support 31st Annual Technical Conference of the American Society for Composites (September 19–21) and ASTM Committee on Composite Materials (D30) meeting (September 21–22). Both events will take place in Williamsburg, VA. Submissions of abstracts and full papers are being invited; deadline is January 15, 2016.

Proposed ASTM Standard to classify CTPs for skin wound healing.

Proposed ASTM International standard WK43184, Classification of Cellular and/or Tissue-Based Products (CTPs) for Skin Wounds, seeks to define terminology for description of CTPs for skin wounds based on their composition. Providing common language for healthcare providers, payers, researchers, and manufacturers, this standard will also include definitions related to skin wounds and chronic skin ulcers that are difficult to find elsewhere.
