ASTM standardizes headgear for women's lacrosse.

Experts from the lacrosse community, medical field, biomechanics industry, and product testing laboratories collaborated on standard F3137, Specification for Headgear Used in Women’s Lacrosse. Standard was developed to allow for optional use and to ensure that players opting not to wear headgear would not be injured by players who choose to wear protective headgear. Optional status may be re-evaluated once women’s lacrosse community begins to see F3137-compliant headgear in action.

ASTM honors LANL's Sherri Bingert with Award of Merit.

ASTM International Committee B09 on Metal Powders and Metal Powder Products has presented Award of Merit to Sherri Bingert of Los Alamos National Laboratory in Los Alamos, New Mexico. Bingert has been an active ASTM member since 1995 and during her tenure in B09, she has updated several test methods for powder density and flow and refractory metals and alloys, and has contributed to nomenclature and other characterization methods for metal powders and metal powder products.

ASTM Committee presents Award of Merit to Ron Bird.

In recognition of contributions to standards activities, ASTM International Committee A01 on Steel, Stainless Steel, and Related Alloys presented Award of Merit to retired steel expert Ron Bird. ASTM member since 1987, Bird was recognized for his productivity and work related to standardization of castings and corrosion testing of stainless steels and related alloys. Bird has been instrumental in developing ASTM standards for steel investment castings within Subcommittee A01.18 on Castings.

ASTM Committee Presents Award of Merit to Dr. Bertand Morel.

ASTM International Committee C26 on Nuclear Fuel Cycle recognized Bertrand Morel, Ph.D., research and development deputy director at AREVA, with Award of Merit and honorary title of fellow. Specifically noted was Morel’s leadership and commitment to developing international specifications and test methods related to nuclear fuel. ASTM member since 1995, Morel is C26 second vice chairman, chairs Subcommittee C26.02, and has served on ASTM board of directors since 2014.

ASTM Standard provides corrosion protection for steel bars.

A1094/A1094M, Specification for Continuous Hot-Dip Galvanized Steel Bars for Concrete Reinforcement, supports corrosion protection for steel reinforcing bars galvanized by zinc or zinc-alloy coatings. Standard will be useful to state and federal specifying bodies for bridge and road infrastructure; engineering and contracting firms; producers of precast concrete products; manufacturers for confirming that product parameters meet specification; and laboratories for product testing.
