ASTM D7952 tests potential of pressurized aerosol products to be accidentally inhaled and aspirated by determining spray pattern and aerosol deposition rates. Paints, varnishes, stains, and lubricants are among products dispensed from pressurized aerosol containers. Standard could help manufacturers, regulatory bodies, and laboratories determine whether or not products are appropriately labeled and whether childproof caps are needed.

ASTM Works to Revise/Reinstate biodegradable plastics standard.

ASTM is working to revise and reinstate standard D7081-05, Standard Specification for Non-Floating Biodegradable Plastics in the Marine Environment. Said revision, which will include name change, will cover products (including packaging and coatings) made from plastics that are designed to be biodegradable in natural seawater. This specification was withdrawn in April 2014 in accordance with ASTM Regulations Governing ASTM Technical Committees (section 10.6.3).

ASTM Committee E08 on Fatigue and Fracture honored Steve Daniewicz, Ph.D., a professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Mississippi State University, with ASTM International Award of Merit for his leadership and outstanding contributions to the development of fatigue crack growth standard test methods. An ASTM member since 1995, Daniewicz has led several E08 subcommittees and task groups, specifically E08.01 on Research and Education, which he has chaired since 2002.
