The employee will be assigned to the 1. Providing technical support to ESA projects in the domain of Field Programmable Gate Array FPGA used in payloads and platforms of ESA missions of any ESA programme Navigation, Science, EarthObservation, Telecommunications, Human Space Exploration or Technology. This technical support will involve a. Supervision of the endtoend development of new FPGAs throughoutall the development phases specification, architectural design, detailed design, place and route, programming and device tests. b. Critical review of the technical documentation, design files, hardware test platforms and software used during the different phases of the FPGA developments. c. Providing technical feedback and advice to ESA and industry mission teams to help achieve successful and ontimeonbudget new FPGA developments and to solve problems related to already developed FPGAs. 2. Leading andor providing support to research internal in ESTEC Microelectronics Laboratory andor external with companies contracted by ESA activities in the domain of FPGAs devices and their tool ecosystems for use in space environment. Education and Experience Applicants should have a university degree in Electronics Engineering or Physics, specialized in Microelectronics. Applicants should have four or more years of experience in Design and test of digital FPGAs specifications, block design, top level integration, design for test, pre and post layout simulation and timing analysis, gates synthesis, support during layout, prototype test and in system validation, with proficiency in HDL VHDL, Verilog and SystemC. VLSI IC Design CAD tools such as Synopsys, CADENCE, Mentor, Mathlab andor Simulink. FPGA HW and SW of several vendors such as Xilinx, Microchip former Microsemi, former ACTEL, NanoXplore, Altera andor Atmel. Preparation of FPGA testbenches, for functional validation and electrical characterization, using signal generators, oscilloscopes and signal analyzers. Basic system administration in UNIX and Windows for IC Design CAD tools. Important additional assets would be Experience with Microprocessors e.g. LEON, ARM, RISCV and HWSW codesign. Experience with mitigation of radiation effects andor radiation tests of FPGAs andor ASICs. Experience with digital ASIC design. Knowledge of the Space environment, its effects on microelectronics devices and related technology, as well as ECSS quality standards applied to space VLSI ICs. This customer support role will assist Hosted Processing tenants in the setup of their required virtual environment, support user issues related to cloud processing and EUMETSAT data and provide a first level ensuring the smooth operations of the cloud services for all tenants. The Hosted Processing relays on a cloud infrastructure develop and maintained in house. The infrastructure is based on VMware, Kubernetes and Openstack and the Hosted processing support engineer will have multiple tools to automatize and frustrate the tenants operations AWS, Morpheus, etc. Responsibilities Typical activities to be undertaken are Provide first level support for Hosted Processing ICSI problems Assist users with the setup of the infrastructure, the processing and response to related queries, Monitor resources and user activities to avoid impacts of their processing on the system or other users. Support user onboarding to Hosted processing environment Identification of intended workflows use case assessment and scaling requirements, Provisioning Preparation of relevant support scripts tools application support Offer technical solutions to cloud customers regarding user cases, and being able to deploy those solutions in an automated way. Define, setup and maintain a range of VM environments images reflecting user needs for hosted processing applications and allowing HP tenants to choose and preconfigure their specific environment e.g. Batch environment, processing environment with relevant tools, user environments extending over various VMs in a Cloud Application Management such as Morpheus Train tenants on how to use the Hosted Processing environment and provide suitable documentation e.g. user guides Support the maintenance of the EO datasets on the systems Interact closely with 2nd level engineering support for Cloud Infrastructure. This is a full time position, located at EUMETSAT Darmstadt, Germany. Fluency in English spoken and written is mandatory, as English is the working language. Qualifications Competencies Applicants shall have a university degree in computer science or equivalent. You should have proven knowledge and work experience with the following GNULinux administration using different distributions SLES, RHEL, Ubuntu Automation AWS, Morpheus and monitoring CheckMK, Nagios Experience in operations and production environments Proven knowledge and handson experience with the following is mandatory Definition, implementation, testing and documentation of endtoend system changes Preparation of technical documentation in English in a complete and clear manner Communication and interpersonal skills, being able to effectively communicate and coordinate activities within different teams Experience with customer communication and management.
