Position Reference 936 On behalf of ESA, we are currently looking for an OnBoard Computer and Data Systems Engineer to work in its Site ESTEC in the city of Noordwijk, The Netherlands. The key person will join the OnBoard Computer Data Handling Section, which provides functional support to ESA projects and carries out technological research RD on turnkey onboard HW Data Handling solutions for platform and payload data handling architectures and units onboard computers, mass memories, remote terminals, etc.. Tasks and Activities The scope of work will include Provide expert technical support and consultancy to the Galileo projects regarding onboard Computer and DataHandling systems throughout all project phases. Lead and coordinate specialized engineering support provided by the Directorates of Technical Quality Management and Operation for Monitoring the industrial work associated with design, development, validation, qualification and acceptance of the Avionics subsystems DHS, AOCS, EPS and associated equipment ensuring that these meet the satellite and security requirements with the support of specialized AOCS and EPS engineers provided by the Directorates of Technical Quality Management. Monitoring the industrial activities related to the definition and execution of the satellite verification programme in the areas of responsibility, including implementation and monitoring of AITAIV activities on Avionics subsystems and equipment with the specialized AOCS and EPS engineers provided by the Directorates of Technical Quality Management. Contributing to the control and management of the satellite budgets in the areas of responsibility with the support of specialized AOCS and EPS engineers provided by the Directorates of Technical Quality Management. Ensuring timely delivery of the Deliverable Items to allow preparation of inorbit operations in the domain of responsibility. Elaborating in the area of expertise the dispositions related to anomalyhandling, NRBs, NCR process, RFDW, etc. Participating in Agency project reviews and lowerlevel reviews in the relevant field of competence DHS, AOCS, EPS. Preparing the inputs in the area of expertise for the Satellite Verification Control Board and Space Segment Control Boards processes. Regular and ad hoc reporting to the Satellite Platform Manager on all aspects of onboard Computer and DataHandling subsystem and equipment development, proactive monitoring of relevant schedules, identifying risk and problem areas, proposing mitigation actions. Participate in periodic meetings with the parent OnBoard Computer Data Handling section, contributing to the transfer of technical knowledge and lessons learned within the limits of mandated project confidentiality across the Agency. Skills and Experience The following skills and experience are mandatory Masters degree in networks, electronics, telecommunications or a related field, with at least 4 years of relevant working experience. At least 10 years of professional experience in the fields of space hardware related to platform and payload data handling equipment units, modules and boards, along with some experience in the AOCS and EPS. Fluency in English, both written and spoken. The following skills would be highly desirable Knowledge in the fields of Data Handling Electrical Ground Support Equipment EGSE and in the field of multicore onboard computer architectures. Overview The Position is mainly working on GALILEO Ground Segment processing facilities, in a role supporting the GALILEO Ground Mission Segment GMS team in particular, the detailed specific tasks include . Evaluation of GMS design and evolution, with a specific focus on GMS Algorithms and performances incl. RAMS aspects, ensuring the design, development, deployment, verification, tuning and validation of the Ground Segment functions that generate and monitor the navigation products i.e. Ephemeris, Clock, Group Delay, Code Phase Biases, etc. in line with the allocated performances for service provision i.e. accuracy, continuity, integrity and availability requirements and development constraints. Evaluate GMS design evolutions for robustness improvements eg. barrier enhancement and new functions. Followup of the procurement actions related to the implementation of set of GMS Elements including support to the monitoring of industrial contracts for the developments and generating and reviewing relevant documentation such as technical requirements. Participation to GMS related Integration, Verification and Qualification IVQ activities, such as test cases definition and preparation, formal tests witnessing, Verification Credit collection at Element and Segment level, anomalies followup at Element, Segment and System level. Support to GMS engineering activities, as well as Galileo System level engineering activities, such as requirement engineering, change management and baseline evolutions DCPsDCNs, assessment of contractors RFDsRFWs new services evaluation and contribution to proposal assessments. Contribution to GMS and System reviews and support to Galileo Ground Segment next generation developments. Specific Qualification Requirements University degree MSc minimum in telecommunications and signal processing, electronic engineering, computer science or other scientific disciplines, as well as experience in these fields. Experience in the management and monitoring of industrial activities, including participation in reviews. Specific knowledge in the design and testing of Ground Segment algorithms related to the generation and monitoring of the navigation products i.e. Ephemeris, Clock, Group Delay, Code Phase Biases.... Specific knowledge on algorithms for clock ensembles, realtime clock anomaly detection and automatic fault compensation is considered an asset. Knowledge on Resource Abstraction layers e.g. hyper convergence, virtualisation, containerisation and data centric processing. Knowledge of Agile software engineering techniques, in particular SAFe methodology, is an asset. The applicant shall have experience relevant with the GNSS and GALILEO systems and equipment and have good knowledge of Radio Navigation processing, simulation and testing systems Candidates must be eligible for security clearance from their national security administration.
