An opportunity for an experienced Communications Engineer to work onsite at ESTEC for Telespazio VEGA UK supporting work within RF Systems Payloads and Technologies, providing support in communication systems and technologies related to applicable ESA missions and projects. Responsibilities Duties The successful candidate will be involved in a diverse range of tasks including Assisting with preparation of invitation to tenders ITTs related to ESA RD. Design, implementation and testing tasks for technological projects across the following areas Telecom network standards and protocols SATCOM system and networks from Layer 2 and above Link layer computer simulations Telecom networking security Qualifications Experience Masters degree or equivalent qualification in electrical, computer or telecommunications engineering emphasis on digital communications system and subsystem techniques, high speed processing techniques for satellite communication Very solid background in Internet, secure IP and applicationsnetworking technologies. Essential Skills Knowledge of SATCOM systems and networks from layer 2 and above together with familiarity with link layer computer simulations Knowledge of satellite communication architectures and techniques. Experience in analysis and design of modern digital communication systems, coding and synchronization issues. Familiarity with modern communication system and subsystem simulation techniques, as a minimum Matlab and CC program languages. Desirable Skills Knowledge of security testing and validation tools Qualities Good English language skills Good organisational and communication skills, with the ability to work in a diverse team environment. Overview The contractor will provide support to the Telecom TTC Systems Technologies section. Knowledge of satellite communication architectures and techniques. Experience in analysis and design of modern digital communication systems, coding and synchronization issues. Knowledge of modern prototyping and testing methodologies for digital communication subsystems is also preferred. Within the generic activities foreseen above, the contractor shall mostly focus on the following technical areas Satellite modem physical and link layer analysis, design, prototyping and testing. SATCOM Systems and network analysis and simulations. Specific qualification requirements Master Degree in Telecommunication Engineering with particular emphasis on digital transmissions from the physical and MAC perspective. Strong technical background in telecommunication engineering and knowledge of the relevant communication protocols is required. Knowledge of the main satellite and terrestrial telecom standards is considered an asset as well as the experience with communication system HW prototyping and testing e.g. FPGA, DSP, GPU, microprocessors. Broad technical expertise in telecommunication networks design with particular emphasis on physical and link layer, and good understanding of multiple access telecommunication protocols. Good knowledge and experience in the use of communication simulation software tools e.g. Matlab, C is required. A few years of work experience in the field of complex digital communications systems, subsystems and networks is required. Familiarity with satellite TTC transmission techniques is a plus. Languages skills Fluent English both written and spoken. Legal and Security Requirements All applicants must be legally allowed to work in The Netherlands Applicants are required to provide a copy of their passport and degree certificate. Aurora will validate the Degree with the issuing University and provide evidence to ESA. Prior to issuing a letter of employment the applicant shall provide to Aurora a recent official document declaring that they are of good conduct from the country where currently resident. Location The work will be performed at the European Space Technology and Research Centre ESTEC at Noordwijk, The Netherlands. Contract The selected candidate will receive good remuneration. Will be registered for both social security and tax in the Netherlands. The standard working hours are 40 per week. There are 12 public holidays and an additional 30 annual days holiday.
