Spacecraft Operations Engineer Geostationary Satellite Systems

Thorn SDS is part of the service consortium currently providing spacecraft engineering services to EUMETSAT, the European Organisation for the Exploitation of Meteorological Satellites. We have an immediate vacancy for an experienced Spacecraft Operations Engineer join our team in Germany. This are great opportunity to develop and grow your career in a multinational environment under the guidance of industry experts. Candidates must be excellent communicators in English with a passion for the Space Industry. The responsibilities of the service include the routine and special operations of operational METEOSAT spacecraft, continuous monitoring of spacecraft performance and the operations preparation for the next generation of geostationary spacecraft, MTG. In addition to a relevant university degree, team members are expected to have expertise across one or more subsystems payload, TCS, EPS, TTC, DHS, AOCS, UPS and to work seamlessly together with the rest of the team to ensure a level of competence is always available. Experience of Spacecraft Operations or Spacecraft Operations Preparation, preferably for a Geostationary Earth Orbit GEO mission would be considered advantageous. The role will develop with the phases of the missions, so we are looking for engineers who can demonstrate initiative and flexibility in a fastpaced environment. With experience of the full life cycle of spacecraft flight procedures, you will have carried out procedure creation, validation and simulation. Senior candidates will have worked on SVTs, anomaly investigations and have a good understanding of spacecraft operations at system level. Programming skills and experience with the SCOS2000 mission control system will also be advantageous. Juggling tasks and making the most of the resources available to you will be essential in this role. You will interface with other teams, so you must be a team player with an ability to communicate complex ideas in a concise way. This role is an integral part of the operations readiness of O3b mPOWER and subsequent and ongoing Operations group change across SES. The individual will work as part of the project Symphony team future operations design to ensure that all operational requirements are gathered and input to the various ongoing system developments across SES. Towards the go live of O3b mPOWER the individual will be critical in the operationalising and transition of all new systems and tools. PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES KEY RESULTS AREAS Work very closely with the Operations architect and other members of the Project Symphony team and system teams across the mPOWER program to drive a robust set of operational requirements into system design and development. Provide, detail and own requirements into various ongoing system developments. This will also include detailed operational use cases for NOC L1L2 and Operations L3. Drive the operations input into the SES system level design. Drive the successful completion of operational criteria inside tool and system developments Create technical CONOPS documentation around the operational environment Collaborate with other functional leaders to ensure a seamless customer experience is understood and delivered across everything that we do. Support the training program lead in ensuring the right training material is made available pertaining to all tools and systems. Work closely with the enterprise architecture and IT functions to ensure a fully cohesive set of IT services and products are transitioned into operations. Power Systems Engineer

Contract, Approximately 1.5 working days per week for 12 months Astroscale is seeking to employ an experienced and motivated Power Engineer to work on key projects, which are based in the Harwell, UK offices. The work is foreseen to take place over a 12month contract. Flexible working arrangements are available, but regular team working at the UK offices is expected. This is a unique opportunity to join a dynamic and rapidly growing company seeking to make a positive contribution to the growing problem of orbital debris that endangers mankinds continued use of space as an asset. The candidate will primarily work on UK officebased projects, but they may need to interact with teams across Astroscales Global Offices as needed in support of Astroscale projects and operations. Responsibilities Manage and review the development and design activities for power subsystems on Astroscale spacecraft maintain subsystem requirements review subsystem architecture review tradeoff analysis of hardware software solutions support power budgets review FMECA inputs and FDIR processes manage and ensure compliance to the grounding scheme across the spacecraft understand and review the interaction between the different elements of the power subsystem generation solar panels, storage battery and distribution PCDU Coordinate with other teams at subsystem and at system level to define ConOps, ICDs, development and verification plans. Plan subsystems and system level verification tests, including environmental testing. Interact with partners and suppliers for the provision of power system equipment. Support procurement engineers with specification, tradeoff and selection of power system equipment. Participate in review of the deliverables in support of the project milestones. Essential Skills Diploma bachelor or masters degree in electrical engineering or relevant engineeringscience discipline. 5 years of commercial experience of designing and testing power subsystems for satellites. Understanding of solar panel specification, manufacturing process, handling and testing. Experience sizing, procuring, testing and integrating satellite batteries and an awareness the storage handling requirements for batteries. Experience in constructing grounding philosophies and grounding diagrams for spacecraft architectures. Experience of designing and testing EGSE for the purposes of powering the satellite during the AIT phase. Good understanding of spacecraft mission lifecycle and milestones e.g. MDR, PDR, CDR, etc. Good understanding of system engineering managing requirements through the full project lifecycle. Desired Skills Demonstrable experience of spacecraft design lifecycle at all stages from initial concept to design, test, and operations. Operational experience of power systems on spacecraft missions. Experience of analysis radiation tolerances and knowledge of radiation hardness assurance for Low Earth Orbit applications. Whilst the working language across all Astroscale divisions is English, proficiency in spoken andor written Japanese would be considered an asset.
