On June 4, City Council of Kansas City, Missouri, passed a building energy benchmarking and transparency ordinance that would require large municipal, multifamily, and commercial buildings to measure and disclose their energy use. Such policies make it possible to compare energy performance of different buildings, allowing prospective buyers and renters to understand the full cost of operating the building. Bipartisan Bill Targets Pregnancy Discrimination in Workplace

A bipartisan group of U.S. lawmakers introduced legislation last Thursday to boost protections for pregnant workers in response to a recent U.S. Supreme Court ruling that revived discrimination claims by a former United Parcel Service Inc. driver. Federal law currently prohibits employers from firing, refusing to hire or otherwise discriminating against pregnant women.
