For our activities in ESAC, we are currently looking for a Gaia Science Operations Engineer. Main responsibilities As Gaia Science Operations Engineer you will have the following tasks and responsibilities Contribute to procedure writing and the implementation of those procedures Follow procedures and operate Gaia SOC systems, predominantly the daily pipeline modules Test SOC systems for the daily processing of raw Gaia data Test SOC systems for the generation of payload operations request Further test and scale SOC products such as MDB Participate in the optimisation of software processing Gather operational constraints for software running at SOC Interact appropriately with and support the providers of all software SOC systems Interact appropriately with the users of DPCE data products and other Data Processing Centres Assist in automation of SOC procedures nominally Gaia SOC will only be manned normal working hours Contribute to the maintenance of the overall system, including configuration control and versioning Report on operational activities including the gathering and presentation of processing summary Statistics. Ideal candidate Requirements You should bring a Master degree or equivalent in a relevant field, at least 4 years of working experience and the following Experience in operating large and distributed data processing systems Past astronomical instrument or spacecraft support with a major international space or groundbased observatory Support to the professional astronomical community for a spacebased mission Use of spacebased scientific data in support of science research ECSS standards for software development Subversion Large Databases data processing 1TB LaTeX. Knowledge of the Java programming language is not required but would be an asset. Main responsibilities As ExoMars Science Operations Engineer you will have the following tasks and responsibilities Science Operations Engineer Uplink Data Production Tasks Definition update and population of the SOC configuration controlled operations data instrument models, observation definitions, observation geometries Definition and generation of the SOC operations plan and procedures Maintain the ICDs for the SOCPI team interface. SGS Development tasks Support SOC development Provision of feedback on system performance and characteristics to system engineer and the sw developer throughout the production period as part of the iterative development process Definition and development of test cases, pass and fail criteria. Ensure readiness for Nominal Science Phase Operations Configuring Nominal SOC systems to any payload activities preceding Nominal Science Operations e.g. Mars Capture Orbit MCO activities Validating the initial set of nominal science phase operations data Rehearse the LTP, MTP and STP operations process with the PI teams Operations Rehearsals ORs. Science Operations Engineering tasks Operations Preparation Activities in support to Long Term Planning Scheduling of the PI teamdefined contributing observations Validation with MAPPS to generate an operationally feasible candidate plan Refining the LTP in response to modified LTP inputs Freezing the LTP baseline and committing to configuration control. Medium Term Planning Activities Kickoff MTP science planning by providing the PI teams with the baseline observation types Scheduling defined contributing observations within the MTP period Use of MAPPS to generate an operationally feasible candidate plan including pointing and resource allocations Refining the science plan directly with the PI teams at the observation level Gaining approval of the final MTP plan and freeze the MTP baseline Generating the pointing and payload request files, then deliver to the MOC. Short Term Planning Activities Generating a full set of instrument timelines ITLs for all four 1week commanding periods that correspond to the agreed MTP Working with the PI teams to update their commanding for each CP in turn Using MAPPS to check that any commanding updates respect the operations constraints and remain within the envelope established in the MTP Generating the payload operations requests and submitting them to the MOC 1 week before execution for each CP. Ideal candidate Requirements You should bring a Master degree or equivalent in a scientific or technical subject, at least 4 years of working experience and the following Experience in uplink science operations for solar system missions Experience in payload modelling, simulation and commanding Experience with simulation software for spacecraft operations and observation geometry Experience with planetary science operation tools MAPPS, EPS, SPICE is considered a bonus. Madrid, Spain System Software Engineer for Science Operations 1616029 Job Description We are looking for a System and Software Engineer to support our client ESAC, in Spain. You will be part of the Science Operations team and provide support to the Mission Analysis and Payload Planning System MAPPS. Your tasks will include Providing the MAPPS software deliveries following the existing maintenance and release procedures. Improving these procedures where needed also considering the long lifetime of the software. Verification and validation of the software and execution of the test procedures. Scientific onsite consultancy support is sought to contribute to the development of product processing facilities of the EUMETSAT Polar System Second Generation EPSSG ground segment. The engineer will provide support in the area of optical imaging for prototyping activities and support to the generation of product generation specifications, calibration validation plans, test data and performance budgets. The engineers expertise includes optical imaging and strong programming skills. The initial support duration covers two years, starting in January 2016 two options covering one year each are foreseen.
