Space Exploration Strategy Development System Engineer

Overview The service supplier shall support the Exploration missions preparation team with the following duties Supporting the implementation of ESA internal and industrial system definition studies at Phase AB1 level, including associated technology studies for preparing future European activities and projects in the field of robotic exploration, addressing in particular future Mars Orbiter and Rover mission concepts Support to preparation and implementation of study reviews with industryinternational partners and ESA internal Developing and maintaining keydriving System and Technical requirements document for future European development activities and studies for exploration at mission, architecture, system and technology level Supporting international collaboration efforts in the field of exploration missions and supporting the definition and analysis of future international exploration mission scenarios and associated technology requirements Supporting activities involving engagement of external parties industry, academia, international partners organised by HRE in the field of exploration. Specific qualification requirements University degree MSc. in Engineering preferably space related. Experience in in writing System, technical and verification requirement documents. Experience with space exploration missions at phase AB1 level. Experience withtechnology studies in the field of robotic exploration. Fluent in the English language spoken and written. Knowledge of another European language is an asset. Legal and Security Requirements All applicants must be legally allowed to work in The Netherlands Applicants are required to provide a copy of their passport and degree certificate. Aurora will validate the Degree with the issuing University and provide evidence to ESA. Prior to issuing a letter of employment the applicant shall provide to Aurora a recent official document declaring that they are of good conduct from the country where currently resident. Location The work will be performed at the European Space Technology and Research Centre ESTEC at Noordwijk, The Netherlands. Contract The selected candidate will receive good remuneration in line withESA Job Class. Will be registered for both social security and tax in the Netherlands. The standard working hours are 40 per week. There are 12 public holidays and an additional 30 annual days holiday. Location ESOC, Darmstadt, Germany Description The Internal Research Fellow will be based at the European Astronaut Centre in Cologne, Germany. The European Astronaut Centres tasks are centered around the human component of human spaceflight astronaut selection, training, medical support and surveillance, as well as support of astronauts and their families during preparation for and during while on space missions to the International Space Station ISS. In order to make the operational experience of EAC available also to other ESA activities, in particular for the preparation of human exploration, EAC is will establishing a new lunar analogue facility which will allows for the demonstration of human exploration enabling technologies. One aspect of this facility is the implementation of a renewable standalone power system to power elements of the facility e.g. an analogue habitat. This position is made available by the Italian Space Agency ASI as part of the ESAASI integrated team. The Spaceship EAC team is composed of Research Fellows, Young Graduate Trainees and university interns performing their final year projects within the fields of research and development indicated below. Post Young Graduate Trainee for System Engineering for Lunar Exploration This post is classified F1. Location ESTEC, Noordwijk, The Netherlands, Our team and mission The Lunar Exploration Office is responsible for the set up and implementation of a cooperation between ESA and the Russian Space Agency ROSCOSMOS on Lunar Exploration. The objectives are to flightprove technologies and capabilities for future exploration missions and to gain knowledge to plan safe, effective and efficient human exploration at the Moon. Within this cooperation framework, ESA will provide products and services to the upcoming Russian robotic missions, particularly to a landing mission planned in 20222023, followed by a sample return mission. The European contributions encompass several elements precision and safe landing, lowtemperature drilling and sample analysis instrument, landing site characterisation and operations support. Phase C of these elements will start in 2018 including detailed design, engineering models manufacturing and extensive testing in various facilities, contracted to European industries. The Lunar Lander Team is also supporting feasibility studies of other future lunar missions as well as related technological activities. The associated analyses and simulations, particularly in the area of landing Navigation and Hazard Detection and Avoidance shall represent a major part of the work.
