As IT Network and Communications EngineerTechnician , you will have the opportunity to provide support to all Communications Facilities Services covering all operational LAN, WAN and network security facilities. The scope of tasks covers the maintenance and operational phases of the network infrastructure lifecycle. This position is based in Network Operations Centre NOC, responsible for the provision of ESA Ground Facilities Operations Services, which includes the monitoring and control of ESAs Tracking Station Network ESTRACK as well as the underlying Mission Operations Infrastructure Information Technology MOIIT and Operations Control Centres OCC. Location is Darmstadt, Germany. Tasks and Activities The scope of work will include Administration of the LAN, including configuration and troubleshooting of all LAN and WAN elements, diagnostic testing and performance monitoring between LAN and WAN component IP address management documenting and coordinating the assignment of static IP addresses, VLANs and IP domains in QIP Support to time distribution systems NTP, and Domain Name Servers DNS configure, troubleshoot and maintain existing NTP and DNS infrastructure Administration of the WAN links to third party providers and ESA partners Administration of the LAN and WAN security perimeter access control in line with ESA security policies Install, configure, troubleshoot and maintain existing network and network monitoring software such as CiscoWorks, Cisco CSM etc. Recommend configuration changes and network upgrades Participation in design reviews Implementation of planned and scheduled changes, including, but not limited to Creation, move, removal of communications user systems Commissioning, change and decommissioning of permanent and on demand trunks and backbones internal to communications facilities, both LANs and WAN Maintenance, upgrades and extensions of communications facilities in general Keeping up to date the pertinent records, databases and monitoring and reporting tools, including the capability to trace the history of changes The Configuration Items Cis in the Configuration Management Database CMDB shall be maintained with the following data for each ESA establishment, tracking station, ESA partner site or other OPSNET point of presence Routing and capacity of access to site over telecom provider infrastructures, both terrestrial and satellite, including leased pointtopoint services, ondemand capacity, and access to Internet Capacity of links and allocation to different uses, QoS or traffic classes IP Subnets constituting the different OPSNET communities in the QIP database SLA parameters for each link The firewall logs shall be inspected daily for suspicious traffic and possible security breaches. Any findings shall be reported to the CCC and the responsible MOIIT Mission operations Infrastructure Information Technology Network and Security Manager MOIITNSM. Support to installation changes shall be provided for the connection between ESA Customer Premises Equipment CPEs and Public Telecom Operator PTO points of entry or points of presence. The position may require to work in shift to support the NOC activities. Skills and Experience The following skills and experience are mandatory You have a University degree or equivalent combination of education and experience in Systems Engineering, Computer Science, Management Information Systems, or related IT field You have handson network engineering experience in routeswitch, LANs, WANs, wired and wireless networking, routing protocols, QOS You have handson experience with Installation, configuration, troubleshooting and maintaining existing network and network monitoring software You have experience in multivendor networking environments Cisco, HPE, Extreme Networks, etc. You have experience in change of a communication user system including the planning and execution You have experience in remote access and remote management IT Security and Security protocols acumen The following skills would be highly desirable You have experience in VoIP Unified Communications, call management systems e.g., Cisco, Avaya, Shoretel You have experience in IT within the Space industry Cisco CCNA or CCNP is a plus How to Apply Looking to take your career to the next level? The NOC monitors and controls the Ground Facilities Operations Services, ensures their availability, integrates services from a user perspective and acts as single point of contact. The NOC Technician will be part of an integrated team which provides 247 monitoring and control of Telemetry, Tracking and Command TTC stations of the ESTRACK ground station network, Operational IT and Operational Control Centre services at ESAs European Space Operations Centre in Darmstadt, Germany. The team, located in the ESOC Network Operations Centre, provides support using a variety of computer and network hardware and software. The NOC acts as the first point of contact for users, missionsprojects and second line support teams. Key Responsibilities Liaise with spacecraft and mission operations engineers as well as staff on duty at other support units, ground stations and external Agencies to establish and continuously maintain a comprehensive overview on the availability of and the demand for utilization of resources provided by the ground segment facilities. Supervise and coordinate scheduled support activities. Monitor the progress of station configurations for satellite passes through voice coordination or remote monitoring systems. Schedule Ground Stations and OCC facilities in realtime outside normal working hours. Configure and monitor station configurations for satellite passes as well as data transmissions and performance. Respond immediately to any anomaly affecting operations relevant procedures shall be initiated and 1st line maintenance activities executed as required in order to restore operations. Document and track anomalies, call out 2nd3rd party supportescalate and followup on incident resolution. Reporting and documentation. Act as first line of contact for users of critical systems. Provide 1st line computer and network support to all eligible users including incident, problem, change request and user requestcomplaints handling. Actively monitor all operational IT systems, applications and networks and react immediately on potential issues or outages by Logging and escalating incident tickets according to procedure Identify the impacted servicesusers and inform all relevant parties Initiate incident resolution or mitigating actions to restore the service asap Call outescalate to 2nd line support or external providers according to procedure Followup on incident resolutionprogress and inform interested parties of the status Prioritise work according to criticality of systems, schedules and targets. Provide round the clock cover in a rotating shift pattern, with adequate information handover between shifts. Maintain a log of all relevant activities and events.
