Telecom Italia confirms it's exploring network spin-off, Mediaset deal

(Telecompaper) Telecom Italia (TIM) has finally confirmed that it will take steps to explore the separation of its national fixed-line network to address concerns from the Italian government, regulators and its competitors. In a statement following a board meeting called to discuss the 2018-2020 Business Plan and approve the 2018 preliminary budget, TIM said it would look into a possible spin-off of the network. "Over the coming months, the management will continue to examine various hypothesis to establish whether network separation is needed to address institutions' input and to unlock value," said the company.

LSE Space is looking for an experienced Technician mf in order to fulfill the duty of NETWORK OPERATIONS CENTRE TECHNICIAN for our customer ESAESOC in DarmstadtGermany. For our activities in the European Space Agency, we are currently seeking to employ a highly motivated and enthusiastic Network Operations Centre NOC Technician to work in an exciting innovative international environment. The NOC Technician will be part of an integrated team which provides 247 monitoring and control of Telemetry, Tracking and Command TTC stations of the ESTRACK ground station network, Operational IT and Operational Control Centre services at ESAs European Space Operations Centre in Darmstadt, Germany. The team, located in the ESOC Network Operations Centre, provides support using a variety of computer and network hardware and software. The NOC acts as the first point of contact for users, missionsprojects and second line support teams. The primary responsibilities of this role will be Main responsibilities Your main tasks and responsibilities as NOC Technician will include Liaise with spacecraft and mission operations engineers as well as staff on duty at other support units, ground stations and external Agencies to establish and continuously maintain a comprehensive overview on the availability of and the demand for utilization of resources provided by the ground segment facilities. Supervise and coordinate scheduled support activities. Monitor the progress of station configurations for satellite passes through voice coordination or remote monitoring systems. Schedule Ground Stations and OCC facilities in realtime outside normal working hours. Configure and monitor station configurations for satellite passes as well as data transmissions and performance. Respond immediately to any anomaly affecting operations relevant procedures shall be initiated and 1st line maintenance activities executed as required in order to restore operations. Document and track anomalies, call out 2nd3rd party supportescalate and followup on incident resolution. Reporting and documentation. Act as first line of contact for users of critical systems. Provide 1st line computer and network support to all eligible users including incident, problem, change request and user requestcomplaints handling. Actively monitor all operational IT systems, applications and networks and react immediately on potential issues or outages by Logging and escalating incident tickets according to procedure Identify the impacted servicesusers and inform all relevant parties Initiate incident resolution or mitigating actions to restore the service asap Call outescalate to 2nd line support or external providers according to procedure Followup on incident resolutionprogress and inform interested parties of the status Prioritise work according to criticality of systems, schedules and targets. Operation, fault finding and repair on the network and on active network components CISCO using Ethernet and TCPIP protocols and by logging oncommanding active network components. In line with procedures perform contingency and scheduled reconfigurations, hardware and software maintenance, test and remedial activity, so as to minimise resource impact. Perform various housekeepingadministrative duties. Work to predefined schedules and service levels, actively participate in recommending technical and procedural improvements to benefit the service. Provide round the clock cover in a rotating shift pattern, with adequate information handover between shifts. Maintain a log of all relevant activities and events. Attend user meetings, briefings, user groups and workshops as required. Specific Requirements Ideal candidate The ideal candidate would have the following education, background or qualifications Experience with remote operations of a network of unmanned satellite ground stations or with local operations and maintenance of a manned satellite ground station Sound understanding of ESTRACK ground stations functionality, configurations requirements, and operations constraints Understanding of Local and Wide Area Network Intranet, Internet communications Decisiveness and accountability Interest in and ability to coach train other staff Fluency in English spoken and written Some knowledge of VMS, Unix, Console Works, NetBackup, CDROM production, CiscoWorks, HPOV, CISCO Firewalls, QIP, MS Windows operating systems, ITSM tools Have a good understanding of IT securityconcepts, technology and best practices Have a good understanding of IT networkingWANLAN concepts, technology and troubleshooting Knowledge of ITIL , certification a plus Strong service ethic responsive and courteous when handling user calls Problem Solving aptitudeknowledge of, or proven abilityof linear faultfinding, diagnosis and resolution methodology PC literacy MS Office Products, Lotus Notes Familiarity with operational environments Teamplayer, able to interface with technical and management personnel. We provide highly skilled engineers, technicians and managers to manage, operate and maintain critical services, often embedding the staff within our clients operation. Our customer the European Space Agency ESAESOC manages a global network of satellite ground stations and hosts a suite of IT and communications infrastructure computers, networks, datacentres to support this. These ground stations and computer infrastructure enable ESAs missions to communicate and command their spacecraft and to receive data for science and critical applications. We are responsible for supporting the Operations Centre that manages this infrastructure, 365 days a year, 24 hours a day, and are building a shift team to continue this work for the next five years. We welcome applications from technicians who can bring IT skills and a broad knowledge of computers and network support to the role. You should be committed to continued professional and personal development as the technical requirements of the role are constantly changing with the improvement to systems and there is a continual drive to increase the capability of the 1st and 2nd line support teams. A background in in technical network operations and maintenance, gained in a Telecommunications, IT, Broadcasting or Satellite ground station environment combined with a solid theoretical knowledge of telecommunication, network, and radio principles would be ideal but quick learners with a broad IT background are also encouraged to apply.
