Within the Ground Segment System Engineering Competence Area GSSE CA of the System Engineering and Projects Division SEP the Junior System Engineer will support the management of requirements, design, development and implementation of ground segments of EUMETSAT endtoend satellite systems, in an approach enabling continuity of operations and control of evolutions. The initial focus will be on developing capabilities to reach full proficiency in the area of ground system engineering and knowledge of EUMETSAT operational ground segments. DUTIES Participate in the system engineering processes for managing engineering requirements through the lifecycle of ground segments, using formal methods and tools e.g. DOORS for maintenance, traceability, verification and validation of requirements Support the technical analysis of the architecture and specifications of major upgrades of ground segments, in order to ensure coherence and compatibility with other ongoing developments and identify impacts on baseline technical documentation Contribute to maintaining the architecture of the overall EUMETSAT ground segment through the assessment of relevant technologies and design options, based on a Model Based System Engineering approach Support the definition of the Integration Verification Validation IVV approach and the related tests for evolutions of existing systems and installation of new systems Support the maintenance of a complete and consistent set of system level documentation. SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE Outstanding motivation to develop towards full professionalism in an international environment in the area of Earth Observation Ground Segment Systems Engineering Readiness to learn expand the own knowledge combined with excellent interpersonal skills and the proven ability to work in a team For this role some of the following would be advantageous Background in engineering of processing of remote sensing data or control systems, or digital signalimagery data processing Initial experience in testing, integrating, verifying andor validating data processing systems or equivalent. University degree in system engineering or other relevant discipline. Candidates must be able to work effectively in English and have some knowledge of French. EMPLOYMENT CONDITIONS The initial contract will be under the EUMETSAT Early Career Employee Programme ECEP, for two 2 years with grade A1. Subject to successful performance, a further contract of 5 years duration will be awarded in a post graded A2A4. Additional contracts may be awarded thereafter, subject to individual performance and organisation requirements. There is no limit to the amount of followup contracts a staff member can receive up to the EUMETSAT retirement age of 63, and there are certainly opportunities to establish a long career perspective at EUMETSAT. This post is graded A1 on the EUMETSAT salary scales. The minimum basic salary for this post is EURO 4393 per month net of internal tax which may be negotiable on the basis of skills and experience. The salary scale provides for increments on the anniversary of taking up employment, and scales are reviewed by the EUMETSAT Council with effect from 1 January each year. DUTIES Support the operational rollout of upgrades to online data access systems, cloudbased data access service platforms and other multimission elements required for future satellite systems e.g. MTG, EPSSG, JasonCS Maintain documentation relating to multimission system operations Support the upgrade of multimission monitoring and reporting solutions and other performance monitoring tools, including maintaining requirements, reviewing design and technical proposals and coordination of validation test campaigns Support the analysis and evolution of other aspects of multimission system infrastructure and operations Support the configuration and routine operations of multimission monitoringreporting systems, online data access systems and cloudbased data access services platforms.
