JOB DESCRIPTION Responsibilities Duties Tasks This request for service is for a Flight Dynamics Operations Engineering service. The primary areas of responsibility for this service is Command Generation for Science Missions but the service provider may be requested to assume the responsibility and perform activities for additional service, missions and activities within the scope of general Flight Dynamics operations engineering services. The service provider will be primarily assigned to a particular service within the Science Missions but with the possibility of supporting other service andor missions. Service to be provided are primarily related to EXOMARS RSP and Solar Orbiter. Services may also be requested related to GAIA, Bepi Colombo, Mars Express, ExoMars TGO, Juice and Euclid. The general activities to be supported by the service are depending on the phase of the mission Command Generation Execution of and support to operational tasks Generation of task related command parameters Generation of task related reports Mission Planning Support Execution of and support to operational tasks Generation of mission planning related products, such as schedules and planning input Flight Dynamics Application Layer Maintenance of elements of the Flight Dynamics Application Layer Flight Dynamics System Development Specification of modifications, enhancements and additions to existing software elements Implementation of modifications, enhancements and additions to existing software elements Installation of modifications, enhancements and additions to existing software elements on operational platforms design, coordination and implementation of tests Participation in tests Setup procedures Flight Dynamics SubSystem configuration Coordination of internal and external interfaces and actitivities across subsystems General Flight Dynamics operations engineering activities Qualifications University degree in a relevant engineering field, astronomy, mathematics or physics Required knowledge Very good skills in linear algebra, in particular for problem solving related to geometry in the Euclidean 3dimensional space. Very good skills in calculus in one or several variables. Skills in numerical methods for equations solving, integration of differential equations, function approximation and interpolation, optimisation, linear algebra problems. Very good skills in classical mechanics, including kinematics and dynamics of point masses dynamics of rigid bodies, dynamics expressed in noninertial reference frames, e.g. including dynamics in rotating frames, rotation dynamics expressed in body fixed frame, conservation laws in mechanics, gravitational forces and field, orbit dynamics, keplerian orbits and Kepler laws. Ability to solve mechanics problems via analytical mechanics methods e.g. lagrangian formulation is a valuable asset. Skills to apply above knowledge to develop solutions to technical problems in cooperation with customers and other experts. Ability to define, implement, validate and operate software which applies the above solutions, using C as main programming language knowledge of UnixLinux, scripting languages and Fortran 77952003 is a valuable an asset. Join us for a fresh new challenge designing hardware to fly beyond Earth orbit! We are looking for an experienced engineer who can join a small design team to develop, test, qualify and initialise manufacture a lowcost deepspace flight and payload computational platform. You will be an instrumental member of a small team building out a full avionics stack product. The operation is new, based in Luxembourg as a spinoff of Deep Space Industries California and Bradford Space Netherlands. Our team in Luxembourg will be kept small 10 people and will focus on the single objective of building a reliable, performing, and massoptimised flight avionics system for upcoming deepspace smallsats and landers. You would take over the lead development and qualification of an onboard computer subsystem for this stack. The operation will aim to blend of the responsible, highquality engineering practices of traditional aerospace engineering while implementing the rapid iterative development methods and dynamic workplace culture of a NewSpace style startup. A key document in all ESOC supported missions is the Flight Operations Plan FOP, which is written for each mission by the relevant mission control team. It contains detailed mission event time lines, procedures for all nominal operations, and a large number of procedures dealing with anomalous or contingency situations. The FOP is of key importance for ESOC and it is subjected to a comprehensive cycle of formal reviews and validation using various means including simulators and actual spacecraft hardware. The writing, review, validation and update process is a long term activity and it is essential that the document is maintained under configuration control at all times, throughout the mission lifetime. The EILS team currently provides a FOP support service to ESOC, including monitoring and reporting on the completion of all FOP related test and review actions, both internal to ESOC, and external with the Project and Industry.
