The mission The applicant shall provide support to the routine monitoring, development and operation of current and future EUMETSAT dissemination systems managed by the Dissemination Team of the RSO Division. The duties range from the support to the operation of the various dissemination components, to the analysis, testing, and implementation of new data streams and monitoring and reporting functions. In particular the tasks of the applicant will include Support to routine operations of the dissemination and encryption functions within the EUMETSAT Ground Segments, including performance monitoring and in the case of anomalies, the identification and application of firstline corrective actions. Support to the operations of data encryption functions in the ground and space segment of EUMETSAT programs Control, population and operation of dissemination related databases and configuration files for both inhouse and remote systems Support to the preparation, validation and verification of ground segment operational procedures Support to dissemination services related training of the Realtime Services and Operations Team Support in the analysis and resolution of user enquiries related to dissemination services Support to the validation, verification and rollout of new releases of dissemination and encryption software Investigation into system anomalies that impact on the data dissemination services Generation of Engineering Change Proposals to improve the operational effectiveness of the encryption and dissemination functions Support to design, implementation and verification testing of corrections and improvements Coordination of the operational validation of releases and changes affecting the dissemination system Support to definition and implementation of dissemination service monitoring and reporting tools, and generation of related reports Support to the HW and SW configuration of EUMETCast Reception Stations Support to the validation and rollout of new releases of EUMETCast Reception Station SW packages Analysis of problems in the area of EUMETCast Reception Stations Support to activities in the EUMETCast uplink domain, including operational validation of releases and changes implementation and validation of new services and new data flows integration of new data providers management of the configuration of the EUMETCast uplink server. Support to the generation and maintenance of a products database for dissemination administration Participation in meetings and reviews. Analysis and review of future Dissemination Programme Requirements in an operational context. PROFILE In addition to having a University degree or equivalent in a relevant discipline, the applicant shall have minimum 3 years experience in operations or software maintenance of realtime data dissemination systems, and be familiar with DVBsatellite communications and ground segment operations. The applicant shall have significant work experience on operating system level in major Linux distributions and Windows 2000, XP, Windows7. For the accomplishment of the listed tasks, knowledge and experience of the following is mandatory Computer literacy, including Configuration, installation and scripting for Linux and Windows Evaluationanalysis of systemapplication events and logs Tool based presentation of logs and results Excel etc. Monitoring of near real time data flows in large computer networks Satellite based and terrestrial data distribution systems Provision of near realtime data services in a highavailability environment 247 Support of operational 247 data services Interaction with endusers Coordination of system changes and interfaces with external organisations Encryption technologies, e.g. USB smart cards, TripleDES Formalised hardwaresoftwaresystem testing Configuration control. Tasks The MultiMissions Elements are a set of facilities, tools and infrastructure that are operationally used by the existing programmes and will be upgraded to fulfil the needs of the future programmes. These include, among others, the UMARF Unified Meteorological Archive Retrieval facility, the Dissemination facility, a set of monitoring tools GEMS, SMART and common Infrastructure elements like building and power aspects, the Multi Mission network and the SNI Storage Network Infrastructure that provides a backbone of storage services to multiple facilities unified under a management framework. The Dissemination facility regroups all the services used by EUMETSAT to send in nearreal time data and products to the end users. The position will be covering the engineering aspects of the design and development activities of the Dissemination MultiMission Elements MME Dissemination for the EPS SG and MTG Ground Segment. In this context, the MME Dissemination covers aspect such as Key Centre, Data Collection Platform Facility, Multi Mission Dissemination System and EUMETCast. As a member of the MME Systems Upgrade Projects team, the Key person shall provide support to programmes under development.
