Duties Under the Director of Operations direct authority and a member of the Directorates management team, the postholder is jointly responsible for implementing the Directorates overall strategy and related change process and is also responsible for ground systems engineering and innovation activities required to support mission operations and implement innovation. The incumbent defines the Departments strategy and is responsible for developing, managing and evolving competences, technologies and services related to ground systems and infrastructure as well as technology evolution. JOB DESCRIPTION The facilities within ESTRACK require operations engineering services as provided by Ground Operations Engineers GOE assigned to a set of missions. Ground Operations Engineers are responsible for providing the ops engineering services required for their missions during preparation and execution phase. During the routine phase, they are the first level of escalation of services provided by the Network Operations Centre NOC. Their typical counterparts on the side of ESA missions are Analysts and Spacecraft Operations Engineers. The GOE services are defined below. There is a prime and deputy GOE for each mission The core services of Ground Operations Engineering are as follows Provide services for the mission specific validation of ground segment elements prior to critical operations and after major modifications during the support Support services for the definition of mission specific ground station configuration in the ops preparation phase and after major modifications Support services for the validation of station configuration and MC for remote operations Provide services for validation of external tracking stations Provide supervision and training services to the NOC during the lifetime of the mission Generate and maintain mission specific Ground Segment Operations documentation e.g. Ground Operation Procedures, training material during lifetime of mission Followup services for investigations of anomalies incidents and problems affecting the ground services to the mission. For our activities in the European Space Agency, we are currently seeking to employ a highly motivated and enthusiastic Ground Segment Engineer to work in an exciting innovative international environment The roles will be part of a newly established Network Operations Centre NOC tasked with coordinating, configuring and monitoring activities related to the ESA ground segment, specifically the Telemetry, Tracking and Command TTC stations of the ESTRACK ground station network. The NOC is responsible for providing 1st and 2nd line support to the ESA space missions and its users. It provides Ground Operations, Operational IT and Operational Control Centre services and acts as single point of contact for realtime service requests from ESTRACK customers. Main Responsibilities The main tasks of the Network Operations Center Engineer will be Support to service transition rollout of new solutions and operational validation Support prototyping and pilot projects Supporting ESA Station Engineers and Ground Operations Engineers in identified projects and the execution of delegated tasks Support of LEOP launch and early orbit activities Provide 2nd line ground operations support to the NOC Support mission preparations launches, mission readiness tests, station tests and tracking campaigns Testing and evaluation of system configurations Coordination and configuration control of SW applications, OS in use by the NOC Develop training material and deliver courses. The NOC Engineer will be expected to occasionally work as part of a 247 shift in support of launches and special operations. You will require good professional experience in endtoend ground station systems required for spacecraft operations, antenna, RF frontend equipment, backend TTC systems, communication equipment, MC systems, station general support systems and preferably also in the area of space to ground communications and RF.
