Sri Lanka's apparel exports have slightly rebounded in 2017 and the first two months of 2018, thanks to a sharp fall of the rupee against the euro and the Sterling having boosted sales to the European Union. EU's clothing imports have been supported by a rise of the euro and the Sterling in the last year. Unit prices have increased everywhere in dollar terms, declining in euro terms with however sharp differences depending on product categories and origins. A few low-cost countries have taken advantage of a double-digit increase of their shipments in many product categories, in volume terms, thanks to the sharp fall of unit values in euro terms, as reflected by our comprehensive review of EU's clothing imports per origin and HS 4-digit category with volume, value and unit price changes. Market shares are also calculated for each major supplying country. Full data are available for download.

U.S. Apparel Import Prices in 2017: China vs. India, Indonesia, Vietnam, Cambodia, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Mexico and Honduras

China has again been able to lower its unit prices in full last year and to relatively preserve its share of the US apparel import market, as a result. Unit values of other origins have also dropped, including from Bangladesh or Cambodia with results widely different depending on product categories, as usual. Our series of statistical tables offer a comprehensive comparison of unit values per origin and product category in 2016 and 2017. The report also includes a detailed comparison of Chinese price trends vs other origins, through a series of indexes.
