Mechanical Engineer Team Leader

A Mechanical Engineer Team Leader is required for a full time position to work for one of the UKs most innovative young companies, a world leader in electronic systems for small and miniature satellites. The company is looking to expand its engineering team to meet rapidly growing customer demand for our products as this exciting market expands. We are looking to recruit a Mechanical Engineer who can work within our Operations team to deliver Mechanical design solutions. Responsibilities will include Mechanical system and component design for use in nano and small satellites. Working in the mechanical engineering design team to develop mechanical and electromechanical components for use in a space environment. Active participation to all design phases including concept definition and elaboration, environment definition, thermal models generation, thermal analysis, detailed design, component selection, supply chain engagement, component testing and validation. Generation and review of data packages to the time and quality requirements of the company. Design of closely coupled integrated systems up to full spacecraft level. Work closely with the Manufacture Engineering team to design systems that are optimised for medium volume manufacture and test DfM, DfT. Skills required Minimum BEng Mechanical Engineering or suitable experience in lieu. A minimum of 5 years experience working with CAD Systems Solid Works, ProE or Catia. Demonstrable understanding of the application of risk analysis and design for manufacture techniques in a low to medium volume manufacturing environment. Have the ability to take concept ideas from nonengineering sources and translate these ideas into manufactureable products. Knowledge and experience of Hardware and System development processes, project scheduling, team and task management. Work with other members of the product development team to translate product requirements into engineering product specifications. Design and development of mechanical systems including layout design through to detailed design and evaluation. Detailed working knowledge of Configuration Management. Able to perform effectively under high workloads and be able to adapt to a rapidlychanging timecritical environment. Able to commit to the plan and deliver the expected results on time or to report proactively if any deviations are foreseen. Work in teams showing good interpersonal skills to coordinate with team members and key stakeholders as well as in cooperation with industry and partner agencies. Ability to write technical papers and training material for end users or other team members. Lead Teams of dedicated engineers to produce on time and on cost customer focused solutions to difficult requirement sets. Skills Desirable Knowledge of ESATANTMS or other thermal analysis SW packages would be highly advantageous. Experience of electronic assembly methods and the Mechanical design elements associated with this discipline. Space project experience, preferably with ESA or another major space agency or prime contractor or supplier. Knowledge of Space Engineering ECSS standards. The role will focus on analogue electronics design for the space environment, but will also include other tasks as would be expected of a senior member of engineering staff. Candidates should be from a power electronics background and be able to demonstrate a prior aptitude and enthusiasm for this area of engineering. Responsibilities will include Design of analogue electronic hardware for a space environment. Design of high reliability, high efficiency DCDC converters Power electronics, battery charging and protection design. Knowledge of digital electronics and integration within analogue systems. Managing a small team and able to distribute tasks to other engineers and production staff. Taking designs from prototype through to production of flight hardware. Reviews of work produced within the team and chairing of design reviews Ownership and management of team schedules and resource allocation on a weekly and daily basis Skills required Candidate should be educated to at least Bachelors degree standard in ElectronicElectrical Engineering. Summary of the role Support for a System Operations Engineer required to operate EUMETSATs operational systems, with particular focus on realtime endtoend mission operations and the systems required to support and monitor them. The Key Person will be responsible for the definition andor maintenance of the routine operations procedures pertaining to mission performance operations and the interfaces of the key systems within the ground segment, in accordance with the established EUMETSAT Operations Department configuration management and quality assurance practices. As part of the operations evolution, the key person will be responsible for the redesign and evolution of the mission performance systems to support existing and new programmes. The Key Person will acquire and maintain a Systemwide view of the MSG System, and the EPS CGS and OGS, particularly in the areas of system endtoend monitoring control and data flows. The Key Person will review any planned changes to the mission performance system configurations for LEO and GEO ground segments, and support the investigation of anomalies encountered through the routine system and ground segment operations. The Key Person will provide support to the development and operations preparation for recurrent satellites in existing operational programs e.g. MetopC and MSG4, and for future operational programs now in development including Sentinel3, MTG and EPSSG. The key person will interface with project teams on the implementation of system upgrades to support major operations projects, including System MidTerm Evolution Plan, recurrent satellites, and any System hardware and operating system obsolescence upgrade. This will be coordinated through the normal oncall process Provision of support, as required, to critical operations Processing of mission performance related system anomalies, their documentation, investigation, classification and resolutionmitigation, including participation in Anomaly Review Boards Participation in technical meetings, formal reviews, and scheduling and planning meetings Processing of system modifications, including their documentation, approval, and implementation, including participation in Change Review Boards Support to, and participation in, the functional verification and operational validation of mission performance system upgrades and evolutions, both standalone and in the context of an overall ground segment Liaison with various department and divisions within EUMETSAT CM, QA, Management, Product Experts, User Services Provision of training, through written materials, practical demonstrations and presentations, to other members of the Operations Team. Requirements In addition to having a university degree or equivalent in a relevant technical discipline, the Key Person shall have the following mandatory attributes At least five years experience of endtoend system operations in a realtime spacecraft operations environment Experience at least three years in the operations preparation and routine operations of Geostationary GEO and Low Earth Orbit LEO satellite systems At least three years work experience in the operation and configuration of endtoend monitoring and reporting systems for Earth Observation data processing ground segments At least 3 years experience in the definition, development, integration and acceptance testing of mission data monitoring systems At least three years work experience defining and implementing the verification and validation of ground segment systems Furthermore, it would be a distinct advantage for the Key person to have the following experience and skills Experience of procurement phases for new programmes.
