For our customer in Darmstadt we are looking for a Data Processing System Engineer to support current and future Earth observation missions. Our customer EUMETSAT is an independent intergovernmental organisation founded in 1986 to establish maintain and exploit European systems of operational meteorological satellites and to contribute to the operational monitoring of the climate and the detection of global climate changes. A further objective of EUMETSAT is to provide data, products and support services to the European Copernicus information services and user communities, with a focus on marine, atmosphere and climate. EUMETSAT is governed by a Council representing 30 Member States and 1 Cooperating State. The EUMETSAT Technical and Scientific Support Department TSS provides support to operations of existing satellite systems and to the development of new programmes. Currently EUMETSAT operates the Meteosat Second Generation MSG, the EUMETSAT Polar System EPS and the Copernicus Sentinel 3 space and ground satellite systems. In addition, EUMETSAT is contributing to the operation of a number of other missions, such as JASON, and some other 3rd Party Missions. The focus of routine operations at EUMETSAT is the provision, by effective utilisation of all elements of the space and ground systems, of timely and reliable operational services to the users. For the future, several new missions are in preparation such as Meteosat Third Generation MTG, EPS Second Generation EPS SG, Sentinels follow on and others. Within the System Engineering and Projects Division SEP of the Technical and Scientific Support Department TSS, the Contractor will provide services to the Data Processing Systems and Applications Competence area supporting the Data Processing and System Engineering activities of the EUMETSAT ground segments in development andor under operations. This includes data processing system engineering for supporting Integration, Verification Validation IVV activities at the level of test plan definition, test specification and test coordination. Tasks The task of the candidate shall be to support system engineering activities in the area of data processing. In detail, during phases BC and D of the missions, the candidate will followup on the facility suppliers activities review of the data pack delivered for the reviews support preparation of EUMETSAT deliverables to the contractors participate in the contractors reviews contribute to raising, processing and coordinating RIDs in the documentation provided by the prime contractor of the facility in the different reviews that will take place in the different programmes. contribute and participate on request to progress meetings participate in data processing team meetings and associated activities and reviews where required in the area of data processing system engineering. contribute and participate on request to dedicated technical workshops provide training, through written materials, practical demonstrations and presentations, to other parties involved in the related projects including controllers, analysts and engineers. perform requirements engineering in DOORS for related data processing requirements. This includes review, specification and refinement of existing requirements, their uptraces to parent Ground Segment specifications, justifications and verification methods ensure coherency of requirements with processors specifications provide inputs to the definition of ICDs between data processing elements and other GS functions provide inputs to the definition of testing and Operational scenarios for data processing elements provide inputs to the definition of data processing concepts and tradeoffs to support requirements understanding and justification. Review of documentation dealing with technical evolutions of the infrastructure Profile In addition to having a University degree in the engineering, physics, or software or similar domains the key persons shall have the following mandatory attributes, skills, and experience experience in preparation of requirements, design, interfaces and testing documentation for data processing systems for Earth Observation missions experience on data processing for high data rates missions will be considered an asset. Relevant experience with L1L2 processing software for Earth Observation missions, either for operationsmaintenance or specification and development. Knowledge of the requirements engineering process, including relation between requirements, ICDs, design and testing documentation. Ability to learn and develop the needed skills and knowledge to contribute to the development of future earth observation missions. This includes the ability to rapidly absorb, and make use of, information presented in written and oral communications in a dynamic context. Willingness to work within a multidisciplinary context in cooperation with other teams. The ability to maintain a system overview is essential. The key persons shall have a systematic approach to work, be able to plan their work and to cope with tight schedules and multiple tasks. The key persons shall have the capability to write accurate and consistent technical documentation. The working language for the position is English and therefore the person must be able to work effectively in this language.
