Linear TV drops to 38% of daily video viewing

(Telecompaper) The Dutch still spend 38 percent of their daily video viewing time on linear TV. The rest is divided across recorded, online and on-demand video content, according to the latest 'Dutch Consumer Video Behaviour' report from Telecompaper. On average, each consumer watches 287 minutes per day of video, equal to almost five hours. Less and less of the time goes to traditional linear (live) broadcast TV, which accounted for an average 110 minutes in Q2. The report also found that the growth in households subscricing to 'plus' packages of channels or additional video services has slowed in the last two quarters. However, this does not apply to Netflux, which continues to show above-average growth and is the most popular VoD services. In Q2, almost 22 percent of Dutch households subscriber to Netflix, compared to less than 20 percent in Q1.

Broadband share of video viewing to double in next decade

According to The Diffusion Group (TDG), U.S. broadband video will grow from 17% of total viewing minutes in 2015 to 38% by 2025, up 81%, while Legacy TV will decline from 80% of total viewing minutes to 53%, down 34%.
