Location ESOC, Darmstadt, Germany Description Spacecraft Operations Engineer in the Euclid Spacecraft Operations Unit, Astronomy and Fundamental Physics Missions Division, Mission Operations Department, Directorate of Operations. Duties The postholder will initially be assigned to the Euclid Flight Control Team as Operations Engineer and will report to the Euclid Spacecraft Operations Manager SOM. Tasks will include assisting the SOM with preparing and executing Euclid operations, including nominal and extended routine and endofmission phases performing the Acting SOM role when so delegated assisting the SOM with Operations Ground Segment OGS evolution and validation, including internalexternal interfaces defining, preparing and executing ground segment validation tests, including acceptance, system validation and ground segment system testing for any upgrades planning and execution of routine, special and contingency recovery operations, including mission planning, reporting, anomaly investigation and resolution analysing and reporting spacecraft and ground segment longterm performance interfacing with mission management and Science Ground Segment for related activities interfacing with the EUCLID Project Team, ESA specialists and industry regarding technical matters, including changes to spacecraft design and operations documentation interfacing with other ESOC Divisions regarding spacecraft operations and ground segment technical matters providing support to other missions delegated to the Division, including GAIA, PLATO and future astronomy and fundamental physics missions as required providing support to corporate ESA and ESOC activities as required. Technical competencies General background and specific experience in the technical domains covered by the position Experience in mission, spacecraft andor payload operations Experience in development and maintenance of ground infrastructure andor software systems Knowledge and experience of ground segment, simulators and early operations especially Launch and Early Orbit phase and inorbit commissioning Behavioural competencies Communication Teamwork Customer Focus Innovation Creativity Problem Solving Planning Organisation Education University degree Masters level or equivalent qualification in engineering or physics. Additional requirements Experience with both spacecraft platform and subsystem operations is required. LaunchLEOP experience in an operational capacity would be an asset. Flexibility and adaptability are required, to deal with a multisubjectmultiproject operational environment. VN18 75 JasonCS Sentinel6 Spacecraft Operations Engineer Come and support the operations preparation of two JasonCSSentinel6 satellites, the first to be launched at the end of 2020 This is a great opportunity to become involved in our JasonCS Programme. You will have the opportunity to define and develop our operational spacecraft systems for our next generation of satellites that measure the way our oceans contribute to our weather and help us to understand climate change. The Role You must be an experienced engineer with knowledge of inflight operations gained with Low Earth Orbit LEO satellite systems. You should have some experience of Attitude and Orbit Control Systems AOCS and Data Handling Operations on modern LEO satellite platforms. You will support EUMETSAT with our launch preparation activities as well as all activities through the Launch and Early Orbit, and Inorbit Commissioning Phases. The first satellite is due to be launched at the end of 2020. Managing interfaces with our partners, you will ensure that routine operations run to schedule and all anomalies are investigated and resolved. As part of the oncall operations engineering and management team, you will be tasked to respond to any operational issues as they arise. You will also contribute to the strategic planning and review of our programme, contributing to the definition and development of flight operations systems for future altimeter missions. You need to synthesise complex issues and be able to express ideas and issues clearly, with experience of interfacing with international partners. Your focus will be on achieving successful outcomes, using your initiative and your ability to work with minimum supervision. Training other operational team members in a matrix organisation will also be a key part in this challenging role.
