ESTRACK Ground Operations Engineer

Telespazio VEGA Deutschland has been supporting the European Space Industry for over 30 years, including ESA, DLR, EUMETSAT and CNES. The facilities within ESTRACK require operations engineering services as provided by Ground Operations Engineers GOE who are assigned to a set of missions. Ground Operations Engineers are responsible for providing the ops engineering services required for their missions during preparation and execution phase. During the routine phase they are the first level of escalation of services provided by the ECC and Scheduling Office. Their typical counterparts on the side of ESA missions are Analysts and Spacecraft Operations Engineers. This is a position for an experienced Engineer in the domain of Ground segmentstation operations. This position is based in DarmstadtGermany directly on customer site ESOC. It is fulltime and permanent. Deadline for submission is 20.08.2016 and start will be SeptemberOctober 2016. ResponsibilitiesDuties The core services of Ground Operations Engineering are as follows Provide services for the mission specific validation of ground segment elements prior to critical operations and after major modifications during the support Support services for the definition of mission specific ground station configuration in the ops preparation phase and after major modifications. Support services for the validation of station configuration and MC for remote operations. Provide services for validation of external tracking stations. Provide supervision and training services to the ECC during the lifetime of the mission. Generate and maintain mission specific Ground Segment Operations documentation e.g. Ground Operation Procedures, training material during lifetime of mission. Followup services for investigations of anomalies incidents and problems affecting the ground services to the mission. Support regular meeting with missions e.g. WORM, ICM or event driven meetings e.g. MRBs. In addition to these mission and service dedicated services, GOEs may provide services related to specific facility or tools that are related to the definition, development and validation of new technical systems for Ground Segment Operations. In addition, the service requires participating as OM Operation Manager in support of critical phases of spacecraft operations. Some of the activities will require occasional travel. QualificationsExperience A relevant University degree or higher qualification together with experience in Spacecraft Ground SegmentStation operations is required. Essential Skills Experience in activities applicable to ground segment operations engineering Fluency in English, both in speech and writing Coordinate and interact with other service providers in operations and other fields. Tasks and Responsibilities The work will be performed at the European Space Operation Centre ESOC in Darmstadt, Germany. The primary area of responsibility for this service is the JCSSentinel6 and Sentinel3 missions with possible extensions to support other Earth Observation missions. Tasks This position for consultancy support for a Ground Stations Operations Engineer required for daytoday operations and evolutions of the current EUMETSAT ground stations including MSG, MTP and EPS systems. It is also required that the key person provides support to the development, operations preparation and eventually routine operations phases of the future programmes EPSSG, MTG and JCS. The Key Person will support the Ground Stations and External Interfaces GSEI team within the RSO division and shall support the daily operations of the Ground Stations and their interfaces to the other components of the ground segments to ensure their maximum availability and reliability. This role will focus on the ground stations supporting EUMETSATs geostationary GEO satellites MTP, MSG and MTG but the engineer will also be expected to support the low earth orbit LEO stations when required. In addition, the Key Person will be expected to acquire and maintain Systemwide knowledge of the Ground Segments, particularly in the areas of spacecraft monitoring control and the flow of mission data, due to the central role the ground station plays in spacecraft and ground segment operations.
