Job description For our customer ESOC in Darmstadt, Germany, we are seeking an experienced Sentinels Spacecraft Operations Engineer. Responsibilities The primary area of responsibility for this role as a Spacecraft Operations engineer, lays in the areas of System Engineering including Platform and FDIR and Instruments altimetry, optical, in support to the Earth Observation missions, as a member of the Flight Control Teams FCT, to participate in the preoperational phases, including special operations i.e. LEOP, Commissioning, deorbiting.. and in testing campaigns Simulations, SVT, inflight tests. The following responsibilities are to be covered Support the SOM in the definition of requirements and in the validation, test and operation of the MCS, including the Mission Planning System. Support the SOM in the definition of requirements and in the validation, test and operation of the Simulator Support the SOM in the definition of requirements FOP in the volumes indicated by the SOM Support the SOM in FOS procurement, integration and tests Review of satellite documents LEOP and Commissioning operations support as required You should be familiar with the missions to be supported and in particular with the procedures and tools that are needed to perform the Sentinel operations. The tasks to be performed require considerable initiative, flexibility and independence in executing the assigned tasks. This is a fulltime position with a planned starting date in midSeptember 2016. Qualifications Competencies Applicants shall have a university degree or equivalent qualification in a relevant subject. Essential skills are Spacecraft Flight Operations knowledge, including FDIR, in particular for the Instruments Altimetry, Optical and overall view of the Spacecraft systems engineering Experience with Packet Utilisation Standard Experience in working in an operational environment Experience with flight procedures life cycle, including validation Experience with anomaly investigations Ability to understand and accurately predict behaviour of complex systems Experience with low Earth orbit satellites operations, including experience in preparatory phase OPSPREP, special operations LEOP, Deorbiting campaign and preoperational phase Commissioning specially within the Sentinels missions Ability to work independently and with little supervision Wellorganized, able to prioritise and manage several activities in parallel Capable of coordinate and interact with other service providers in operations and other fields. Summary of the role The Data Flow Infrastructure group DFI within the Science Operations Software department SCS is responsible for developing and maintaining software components, which are critical for the endtoend operations of the ESO Observatories. The Data Flow Infrastructure software includes tools for proposal submission, observation preparation and execution, archive ingestion and retrieval, data organization and execution of data reduction pipelines. We are looking for a consultant to develop and maintain software applications and services supporting the operational and scientific requirements of the EELT and VLT dataflow. In addition to the core SW development, the assigned tasks require requirements analysis in periodic interaction with project scientists, test automation, software integration, deployment and enduser support. Reporting to the dataflow project manager and to the DFI group head, the consultant will be assigned to the further development of the Science Archive Facility, following an agile, featuredriven development process. He or she is also expected to contribute to other activities within the Dataflow project team, quickly adapting to the changing needs of our dynamic environment. Requirements The ideal consultant is a software engineer with a minimum of 3 years professional experience in software development. We are looking to further enhance our team by adding a LEO Spacecraft Operations Engineer 2 positions You will be based initially for 2 years at our clients headquarters in Darmstadt, Germany. Your Tasks Include The Key person shall work in the Operations and Services to Users Department as a member of the Metop Spacecraft Operations Team, where depending on the level of experience, skills and overall team needs, responsibility will be taken for the operations of inorbit subsystems andor instruments, as well as for the operations preparation and operational conduct of inorbit verification for those subsystems and instruments on the MetopC satellite. Furthermore, this may also include support to the onboard software management, simulator configuration, automation of routine analysis or other activities included within the scope of activities of the Metop Spacecraft Operations Team. The key person shall establish effective working interfaces with the satellite operations activities of other operations engineers and analysts, and external teams responsible for mission control, mission planning, flight dynamics and ground stations.
