Main responsibilities The successful candidate will be responsible for the definition, implementation, acceptance and maintenance of mission control systems. The following main tasks are involved Specification of the software requirements of these systems in collaboration with the operational users Definition and specification of their internal and external interfaces in agreement with the relevant parties Acceptance of the deliverables received from industry, ensuring correctness, completeness and compliance to the applicable requirements Support to the mission operations staff as required in the various operational phases, including System Validation Tests, simulation campaign and in software support coordination as part of the Flight Control Team during critical operational phases such as launches Coordination with other internal ESOC or external units, e.g. with the unit supplying mission data systems infrastructure and with the unit supplying the ICT systems and services Participation in research and development activities in the area of mission data systems. Ideal candidate The successful candidate shall meet the following requirements Deep, handson knowledge of mission control systems, their environment and the relevant infrastructure. This includes areas such as mission planning, automation, operational database, archiving, data distribution, etc. Knowledge and experience in the ESOC software engineering methodology and standards. Competence in modern computer languages such as C, C, Java, UML, XML, SQL. Familiarity with the ESOC software development environments and systems, including DOORS. Familiarity with relevant operating systems, including LINUX. Deep, handson experience in development, integration, verification and testing of satellite control infrastructure, and especially in multimission SCOS2000 S2K based Mission Control Systems. Handson experience with Spacecraft Simulators, Ground Models simulators and test harnesses. Augmented and Virtual Reality application development in Unity will be an advantage. Job description We are looking a Software Integration and Verification Engineer to join our Ground Software Systems group in Darmstadt, Germany. You will be responsible for integration and verification testing primarily of spacecraft Mission Control Systems MCS software. Mission Control Systems are the primary tool used by satellite operators for monitoring and controlling spacecraft. The position includes integration and verification testing of other spacerelated ground segment elements such as Flight Dynamics and Mission Planning Systems. In addition to preparing and executing application software test procedures, the work requires good technical skills such as the ability to debug software, install and deploy complex software applications, and to develop automated test scripts. Responsibilities As a Software Integration and Verification Engineer, your tasks will typically include Integration of the various components of a MCS. This includes building new software versions, software installation and deployment, software configuration, adjustment of interfaces, analysis and solution to problems. Generation and updates of test plans and test procedures, covering functional testing, performance and nonregression testing both manual and automated testing. Generation of test data that facilitate the software testing. Execution and coordination of formal software verification and nonregression testing campaigns. This activity includes running the test procedures on the target system, generation of test reports, analysis of results, troubleshooting of problems. Contribute, with the support of software developers, to the investigation of software problems, interacting with users such as mission control system operators when needed to understand the problems. Followup reported problems to ensure that they are handled correctly by the maintenance teams, and that the provided changes correctly resolve the problem. Contribute to development of the verification infrastructure development of scripts tools to perform installation checks, nonregression, functional and performance testing. Analysis and implementation of mechanisms or tools allowing the automatic or semiautomatic verification testing of the application software. Maintaining the verification status of the application software traced to the requirements baseline. Documentation generation and updates of technical documents, such as installation manuals, user manuals and test reports. Provide support to end users of the MCS, including customer support. Participation to technical, progress and team meetings. This is a fulltime position located in Darmstadt, Germany, to start as soon as possible. Qualifications Competencies Applicants shall have a university degree or equivalent in Computer Science or similar. Summary An opportunity for an engineer to provide support on site at ESTEC to the Earth Observation Directorate with the performance, design, development and verification of external radar calibration systems. Objective In the first hand the engineer will support the Sentinel1 Project with EndtoEnd simulators and calibration of the whole system, relating to the Synthetic Aperture Radar SAR payload. The role has three main aspects Mission calibration, EndtoEnd Mission Calibration and Performance and Calibration Targets transponders. Knowledge of SAR technologies, experience in Calibration devices radar and a background in microwave engineering would be suitable.
