We are looking to further enhance our team by adding a Lightning Imager Data Processing Consultant You will be based initially for 3 years at our clients headquarters in Darmstadt, Germany. Your Tasks Include The activities of the Key Person will include support to the MTG programme for the Lightning Imager LI instrument in the following areas Provision of support to the development and evaluation of detector, electronic, radiometric, quality flagging, performance and calibration degradation correction and monitoring algorithms detector, electronics and optical and all other algorithms relevant for the LI 01b data processing. For INR geolocation algorithms support from LI side towards algorithms provided by other sources is anticipated. Provision of support to the development of prototype software code for the purposes of testing and verification of the developed LI 01b algorithms. Provision of support to the development of a reference processor for LI, from level0 to level1b. Provision of an Algorithm Theoretical Baseline Document ATBD for the LI 01b processing. Provision of support to the generation of associated documentation including technical reports, etc. Participation in the LI Instrument Functional Chain Engineering IFCE group. Conducting and supporting external studies relevant for and related to the above activities, and analyzing and evaluating the study results. Note Evaluation of algorithms involves both the review of the information derived from the ESA led LI space segment contract and alternative sources of information. Your Profile In addition to having a technical university degree in Physics or a related subject for example space and satellite engineering, the Key Person shall be in possession of the following mandatory skills for the fulfillment of the tasks Demonstrable familiarity with satellite instruments characteristics for earth observation in the visiblenearinfrared range of the spectrum and with their 01b calibration, as well as with relating physics processes in such satellite instruments to the relevant 01b data processing algorithms required to provide geophysically calibrated level1b data. Solid background in software engineering. Capable of working both individually and independently on assigned responsibilities, as well as in the LIMTG team where necessary. Ability to write concise and comprehensive scientific and technical reports. Good interpersonal and communication skills. The following skills are considered an advantage Experience with scientific instrument data simulation, 01b data processing software development and prototypingtesting such software, for satellite instruments for earth observation. Experience in software development in a Linux andor Unix environment in CC. Experience with the latest software development tools and methods. One of our space clients in Germany are looking for a GEO MTG Lightning Imager Data Processing engineer to provide support to the LI on ground data processing development within the Geostationary Programmes division GEO, with a strong emphasis on all the 01b data processing aspects. The consultant will be integrated into the Instrument Functional Chain Engineering IFCE group of the MTG System Engineering team within the GEO Division and report to the LI instrument system engineer and will also work closely together with the Remote Sensing and Products Division RSP that work on the LI. The role would ideally suit a contractor looking for a long term consultancy role within the space industry. The submission deadline for applicants is 6th January 2016. Regarding the Ground Segment, EUMETSAT will develop and procure a dedicated Ground Segment while capitalising on existing technology and infrastructure elements that are already in operation in the Headquarters as well as on the Satellite Application Facilities SAF Network, taking into account the lessons learnt from previous programmes. EPSSG will be based on a twosatellite configuration with the launch of the first satellite MetopSG A in mid2021 followed by the second satellite MetopSG B 18 months later. Two recurrent Metop SG A and B satellites will be provided and launched in order to achieve a minimum of 21 years of operations. Regarding the Space Segment, EUMETSAT will rely on cooperation with ESA for the development of the satellite Metop Second Generation, MetopSG and of a subset of the instruments.
