Tasks This position is for a key person to support routine operations of the Meteosat Second Generation MSG, Meteosat Transition MTP and EUMETSAT Polar System EPS programmes. The key person shall work in the Real time services and System Operations RSO division of the OPS department as a member of the Data Processing Operations DPO team, supporting the operations of the MSG, MTP and EPS data processing systems. The tasks of the key person will include Support to routine operations involving the MSG, MTP and EPS data processing systems this includes Monitoring and reporting on the performance of the MSG, MTP and EPS data processing systems and the quality and availability of the MSG and MTP Level 1 and Level 2 products and EPS Level 0 to Level 2 products Investigating anomalies relating to the performance of the MSG, MTP and EPS data processing systems and the quality and availability of the MSG and MTP Level 1 and Level 2 and EPS Level 0 to Level 2 products Preparing and reviewing technical documentation relating to data processing operations Providing standby callout support Support to the further development of the MSG and EPS data processing systems, including the specification and validation of system updates Support to the preparation of operational monitoring for future MSG and EPS spacecrafts Support for the operations preparation for future programmes, e.g. Meteosat Third Generation MTG and EUMETSAT Polar System 2nd Generation EPS 2G Participation in technical meetings Participation in formal reviews. LSE Space is looking for an experienced Engineer mf in order to fulfill the duty of MTG Data Processing Facility Procurement for our customer EUMETSAT in DarmstadtGermany. MTGS, the so called sounding satellite, will embark an imaging Fourier interferometer, the InfraRed Sounder IRS, with hyperspectral resolution in the thermal spectral domain, and a high resolution spectrometer the UltravioletVisible Near infrared UVN Instrument provided via ESAs GMES Space Component Programme. The MTG Programme will cover the Phase CD and Phase E activities for EUMETSAT, including contribution to the ESA satellite development programme and procurement of all the recurrent satellites via ESA. The MTG Ground Segment Team is responsible for acquiring the following facilities needed to deliver the MTG products Instrument Data Processing Facility for the Imager Satellites IDPFI for the generation of level 1 imaging products Instrument Data Processing Facility for the Sounder Satellites IDPFS for the generation of level 1 sounding products Level 2 Processing Facility L2PF for the generation of both imaging and sounding level 2 products. Tasks The Key person shall work as a member of the Image Quality Assessment Team supporting the mediumterm and longterm monitoring, operation and further development of Level 1 data processing systems. The Key person shall support the quality assessment and validation of the Level 1 image products for current and future GEO missions but will also provide support to current and future LEO missions in this area. The tasks of the Key person will be carried out mainly at EUMETSAT facilities in Darmstadt, but travel within Europe may be required for certain activities. Essential requirements In addition to having a University degree or equivalent in a relevant discipline, the Key person shall have Extensive theoretical knowledge of Level 1 data processing algorithms for image navigation, registration and calibration and the techniques used for assessing the geometric and radiometric quality of Level 1 image products A minimum of 3 years experience in specifying, prototyping, verifying and validating Level 1 data processing algorithms A minimum of 3 years experience in the processing and analysis of data from imaging andor sounding instruments on remote sensing spacecraft Significant experience of validating remote sensing products and complex remote sensing data processing systems. Software engineering, in particular in algorithm software development, in a Unix environment using CC, and ideally also Python and MatlabIDL Implementation of scientific algorithms from a given specification.
