Thanks to the Copernicus Mission, our meteorological satellites are set to revolutionise weather forecasting and environmental monitoring. We are looking for an operational engineer to join our Copernicus Mission Control Applications and Tools Competence Area to drive forward our success. Your responsibilities You will be responsible for providing support to Copernicus ground segments engineering and maintenance of relevant Mission Control Applications. As a technical leader, you will develop solutions that will shape the strategy of the Mission Control Support team. The role involves leading the maintenance and engineering applications dedicated to our flight operations. There is an opportunity to support the development phase of new Copernicus systems to enhance the exploitation of operational satellite systems including the design, development and testing of applications for new ground segment systems. You will work with contractors to adopt costefficient solutions and ensure that Service Level Agreements are delivered. Working within the team, you will collaborate with team members to enhance the knowledge and skill base within the team. The ideal candidate Along with a university degree in engineering or a scientifically relevant subject, you should be a collaborative team member with proven experience as a technical lead, preferably within a 247 operational environment. You will have extensive experience in the domain of Mission Control Supporting Applications and in maintaining large scale software systems. You will need to demonstrate your resilience and organisational skills in a fast paced, high availability environment. This is an opportunity to demonstrate technical leadership, sharing concepts that will enhance the performance of our Mission Control Support team. You need to be experienced in software development lifecycles along with the integration, testing and acceptance of complex software applications. Knowledge of one or more of the following domainssystems is considered an advantage ESAESOC MICONYS Mission Control System suite ESAESOC DABYS TMTC Database Management product. Tasks and Responsibilities The successful candidate will join the Control and Data Centres team, whose activities cover the development of ground control systems, controlling the experiments done on board of the International Space Station, and different future space crafts, as well as the development of space weather related systems. The relevant activity for this position is the development of mission control systems for future unmanned and manned spacecrafts. In this activity, the software will be developed in the team according to detailed requirements, while following space related standards. Together with your colleagues, you will be responsible for the development of the system following the full software development cycle, including the production of high level documentation and while adhering the relevant standards. Qualifications and Experience For this position, you must have a university degree in a relevant discipline or equivalent. The following capabilities are mandatory for the position 2 to 5 years of experience in design and development of software implemented in Java. Experience with the software development lifecycle.
