EUMETSAT, Europes prestigious Meteorological Satellite Agency, has a challenging and rewarding opportunity for a team leader with experience in both mission control systems MCS and in maintaining large scale software systems in a high availability 24 hour operational environment. The selected candidate will bring their own experience and expertise to the role and additionally be responsible to ensure the knowledge and skill base of their team of software engineers is continually developed and maintained. They will also have the opportunity to specify designs, development and testing of control system applications for new Earth Observation missions, supporting new programmes in development playing a pivotal role in the development of these applications. In addition the key candidate will have responsibilities to manage maintenance activities for all existing MCS applications supporting operational programmes this will involve significant interaction with users, hence the requirement for excellent communication skills. Candidates shall have skills and experienceknowledge in each of the following areas Experience in the domain of Mission Control Systems, maintaining large scale software systems in an operational environment, preferably related to highavailability 24hday applications. Mission Control System functions consisting in telemetry and telecommand processing chains, procedure and schedule automation data archive, operations preparation and ground station interface. Configuration control, integration and testing of complex Mission Control System applications. Software development lifecycle with formal production and maintenance of technical documentation. Software design methodologies e.g. OOAOOD, design languages i.e.UML and CASE tools. Java and C programming languages and related development environments as well as open source solutions and technologies. CCSDS and ECSS standards relevant to the MCS domain. Candidates shall have a university degree or equivalent in a relevant discipline along with a good working knowledge of the English language, both spoken and written.
