(Telecompaper) TurkmenAlem, the first Turkmenistan telecommunications satellite, has launched from Cape Canaveral, reports Trend, citing a statement from the Turkmenistan government issued on 28 April. The satellite was produced by Thales Alenia Space. It was launched using the Falcon 9 rocket.

Thuraya launches XT-Pro satellite phone

(Telecompaper) Thuraya has launched a new satellite phone, the Thuraya XT-Pro, which will be available at all Thuraya service partners from 30 April. Targeted at professional users across a range of market sectors including government, energy, media and NGOs, the Thuraya XT-Pro features built-in GPS, BeiDou and Glonass for high accuracy navigation and added security in every region. The phone offers a talk-time of up to 9 hours, which Thuraya claims is the longest on any satellite phone. It is jet-water, dust and shock resistant and comes with a Gorilla Glass display with glare resistance. The Thuraya XT-Pro also has a dedicated SOS button with advanced navigation and tracking features for added safety. The XT-Pro can be used across the Thuraya network covering two-thirds of the globe, including more than 160 countries. The phone can be used either with a Thuraya prepaid or postpaid SIM card, or a SIM card from any of Thuraya's worldwide GSM roaming partners.

Tasks and Activities The scope of work covers the initial phases of the satellite system design, including feasibility studies at the Phase 0 PrePhase A Phase A level but excluding, in principle, the implementation phase. Management, analysis, definition, and initiation of industrial activities associated to new projects in the telecommunication satellite system domain Assessment of the need and commercial potential for future satellite telecommunication missions and systems Assessment of new concepts and techniques to be applied to next generation satellite communication systems for both space and ground segment Managing prospective studies on new mission concepts and architectures Analysing and preparing proposals for new telecommunication satellite telecommunication projects, including the definition of mission requirements Definition of all the elements endtoend associated to the missionsystem architecture of new telecommunication satellite projectssystems Assessment and analysis of the best concepts and technical solutions to meet the defined mission and system requirements. Skills and Experience University degree or equivalent qualification in Engineering Minimum 10 years of experience in satellite system engineering including industrial experience in the design and development of satellite communication systems Strong experience in space segment payload and preferably in broadband or mobile satellite communication systems Experience with telecommunication satellites platform, payload, or telecommunication endtoend system engineering Experience working with multiple divisions of the European Space Agency and interacting with subject matters experts You must be able to spend the first 3 months in Noordwijk for training purposes.
