Telenor's Thor 7 satellite launches successfully

(Telecompaper) Telenor Satellite Broadcasting has announced the successful launch of its new satellite, Thor 7, on 26 April from the Guiana Space Centre in French Guiana. On board an Ariane 5 launcher, via Arianespace flight VA222, the Thor 7 satellite was successfully injected into geostationary transfer orbit approximately 28 minutes after lift-off. It was manufactured by Space Systems Loral (SSL) and is Telenor Satellite Broadcasting's first growth satellite.

We are currently looking for a Senior Satellite Controller to support our customer in the United Kingdom. Senior Satellite Controller Key Tasks and Responsibilities Our customer is a world leader in satellite data communications. It pioneered the use of high throughput satellites at the Kaband frequencies. Major organisations are now using its networks for cellular backhaul, IP trunking, complex government and enterprise networks and video services, as well as broadband. In this role you will carry out satellite control activities including Monitor and control the Avanti fleet of satellites on a 247 shift rota Carry out satellite commanding using approved flight operations procedures, Maintain operational activity logs Schedule tasks to be performed by the satellite control team Generate periodic reports on spacecraft health and status for distribution to the Satellite Engineering team Perform routine control system maintenance and backup tasks Provide first line response to satellite contingency and escalation to the satellite engineering team Provide support for operations preparation and development during occasional periods of day shifts Attend and support the Anomaly Review Board process as required by the Satellite Control Manager Assist System Administrators in the implementation of satellite control hardware and software Implement updates to the satellite control databases Validate procedure and database updates using dynamic satellite simulators and production of appropriate validation reports Review operational documents originating internally and externally to the company Assist in the development of satellite control team procedures and processes Participate in system verification tests and simulations campaigns in support of new satellite procurement. Skills Experience You will have the following qualifications and relevant experience University degree or equivalent in a relevant technical discipline Demonstrable experience in field of satellite control Good knowledge of satellite subsystems Experience in the use of a derivative satellite control system Experience in the operation of geostationary satellites Understanding of RF communications principles Experience in the use of VBA and knowledge of standard office software products Experience in the preparation, validation and use of operational procedures Experience in the preparation and delivery of technical training courses Experience in the use of dynamic satellite simulators Fluency in English is mandatory knowledge of another European language is an advantage.
