Thorn SDS has a requirement for Network Operations Centre Engineers to join our team based at the European Space Agency, Darmstadt, Germany. A vacancy for a Network Operations Manager mf has arisen within Airbus Defence Space in Toulouse. You will join the Network Services France department, in the Information Management IM Team. IM is the Information Technology IT business enabler and unique IM Business Partner for Airbus Defence and Space. Your main responsibility will be to make sure the network infrastructures are up and running. By driving the subcontractors, you will be responsible for operations followup, for the entryintoservices of new devices, and for the overall availability of the Networking systems. You will also have to identify potential optimisations, in order to improve organisational and financial efficiency. You will work closely with the other team members, subcontractors, projects managers, Service Delivery Managers, business representatives and other IT teams, in France and across Europe. This position will require a security clearance or will require being eligible for clearance by the recognised authorities. We are looking to further enhance our team by adding a Communications and Network Operations Engineer You will be based initially for 2 years at our clients headquarters in Darmstadt, Germany. Extension of a further 2 years may be possible. In this large European Agency you will find an excellent and modern working environment with challenging tasks and responsibilities. Your Tasks Include As a member of RSO, the Key Person shall provide support to the continuous operation and evolutions of the current programmes, and to the operations preparation of future programmes. Main duties will include the support to Communications systems operations both internally and with external partnersentities Security operations Infrastructure operations and evolution System operations in a realtime operations environment Endtoend operations network monitoring and trend analyses System and Networks Evolutions for existing and new programmes The role comprises a range of tasks including the provision of support to the routine operation of the LEO GEO ground segments, as well as their evolution to include new programmes and system operations. The key person will be the primary point of contact for the communications and network engineering team, responsible for all aspects relating to the operations communications and networks systems. The key person will be responsible for the definition andor maintenance of the routine operations procedures pertaining to system operations and the interfaces of the communications and networks systems within the ground segment. Activities will be performed in accordance with the established Operations Department configuration management and quality assurance practices. The Key Person will Acquire and maintain a Systemwide operations view of the Client ground segments from a communications and network point of view. Review any planned communications and network changes to the system configurations for LEO and GEO ground segments, and support the investigation of anomalies encountered through the routine system and ground segment operations. Provide support to the development and operations preparation for the operational communications and network systems for recurrent satellites in existing operational programs e.g. MetopC and MSG4, and for future operational programs now in development including Sentinel3, MTG and EPSSG. Interface with project teams on the implementation of system upgrades to support major operations projects, including System MidTerm Evolution Plan, recurrent satellites, and any System hardware and operating system obsolescence upgrade. In addition heshe will perform the following routine operations tasks Definition and maintenance of communications and networks operations procedures, including System and ground segment procedures and operations guides Liaison with the TSS Communications and Networks team to ensure continued effective operations, coordinating maintenance and evolution activities within the operations networks, while maintaining 247 operational availability Liaison and coordination with the ground segment facility operations teams and system operations analysts to ensure the continuity and optimization of ground segment and mission operations from a communications and network operations perspective through procedure and operations guide updates, configuration changes, database or user interface changes etc. Coordination with external entities and partners to analyze and resolve anomalies related to the communications networks between them, as well as to plan and coordinate changes to either parties systems to support evolutions of the existing connectivity Provision of support to operational security issues, and as backup to the operations security officer Provision of standbyoncall support as system operations engineer, on an as needed basis. This will be coordinated through the normal oncall process Provision of support, as required, to critical operations Processing and coordination of communications and network related system anomalies, their documentation, investigation, classification and resolutionmitigation, including participation in Anomaly Review Boards Participation in technical meetings, formal reviews, and scheduling and planning meetings Processing and coordination of system modifications, including their documentation, approval, and implementation, including participation in Change Review Boards Support to, and participation in, the functional verification and operational validation of operational communications and network upgrades and evolutions, both standalone and in the context of an overall ground segment. Provision of training, through written materials, practical demonstrations and presentations, to other members of the Operations Team. Your Profile In addition to having a university degree or equivalent in a relevant technical discipline, the Key Person shall have the following mandatory attributes At least three years experience of Communications and Network Operations in a 247 realtime operations environment At least three years work experience defining, development, integration, acceptance testing and operation of communications and network systems At least three years work experience of Communications and Network Operations Security At least three years work experience of operation of Cisco or equivalent networks, WANs LANs and demonstrated endtoend systems knowledge. Experience of the following would be a distinct advantage Earth Observation ground segments Project and technical management coordination. Operations of Voice Loop Systems Experience of coordination of communications and networks systems development and upgrades within a 247 operations environment Experience in leading a small team of engineers. The official languages are English and French, the working language for the position is English and therefore the Key Person must be able to work effectively in this language.
