NTSB to investigate Royal Caribbeans Anthem of the Seas storm incident

The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) has been roped in by US Senator Bill Nelson to investigate the incident where Royal Caribbeans cruise ship Anthem of the Seas was caught in the midst of a storm at Bahamas.

NTSB opens accident docket on Philadelphia Amtrak derailment.

NTSB publicly released more than 2,000 pages of information as part of ongoing investigation of May 12, 2015, Amtrak passenger train derailment. Train #188 derailed after entering curve at 106 mph where speed is restricted to 50 mph. Of 250 passengers and 8 Amtrak employees, 8 passengers were killed and more than 200 others were transported to hospitals. Docket includes documents containing interview transcripts, letters, factual reports, photographs, and other investigative material.

NTSB unveiled its 2016 Most Wanted List of transportation safety improvements. List calls for promoting availability of collision avoidance technology in highway vehicles, completion of rail safety initiatives to prevent accidents, and strengthening occupant protection, including laws mandating primary enforcement of seatbelt use. Other topics include distraction and impairment in all modes of transportation, and spins and stalls within general aviation community.

NTSB opens public docket on sinking of cargo ship.

As part of its continuing investigation into the sinking of the cargo ship El Faro in the Atlantic Ocean, NTSB has opened the accident docket and released underwater images and video of the vessel. Owned by Sea Star Line, LLC and operated by TOTE Services, ship went missing on Oct 1 during Hurricane Joaquin and was located on Oct 31 in about 15,000 ft of water near Crooked Island, Bahamas. Twenty-eight U.S. crewmembers and five Polish workers were on board.
