Data Access Systems Operations Manager

EUMETSAT is Europes meteorological satellite agency monitoring the weather and climate from space 24 hours a day, 365 days a year EUMETSAT operates a growing fleet of Earth Observation satellites in Low Earth and geostationary orbits currently comprising seven EUMETSAT Meteosat Second Generation and Metop satellites, Copernicus Sentinel3 and JasonCS satellites. In parallel, EUMETSAT is working towards the launch of the next generation of Meteosat Third Generation and Metop Second Generation satellites. Reporting to the Head of the Realtime Services System Operations RSO Division and supported by a dedicated team of engineers, the Data Access Systems Operations Manager coordinates the routine operations of the EUMETSAT Near Real Time NRT data access systems, and assists with operations preparation activities related to future data access systems. This role is rooted in the mission of EUMETSAT and will provide the opportunity to work with leading IT, Space and Earth Observation organisations and domain experts to make a positive impact on society! Duties Manage a team of operations engineers and service contracts, ensuring efficient and effective use of team resources, including allocation delegation of tasks Conduct the routine operations of the Data Access systems ensuring the operational services availability as specified in the Operational Service Specifications Operational management, scheduling and coordination of the Operational Data Access systems Monitoring of delivered service performance levels Responsibility for the evolution of the Multichannel NRT data access baseline Technical management of the EUMETCast Service Contracts Focal point for all technical interactions with the service providers Followup of any anomalies or incidents with the service providers Develop the transition plans for the introduction of new contracts as appropriate Plan for the evolution of the system to accommodate new requirements. Working with the Technical and Scientific Support TSS Department and the User Support and Climate Services Division, ensure that the Data Access systems evolve to match users needs, including the validation of new and upgraded systems Support the Programme Development Department PRD in the Operations Preparations activities for future programmes including MTG and EPSSG Act as deputy of Head of RSO Division, as required. We are currently looking for an Archive and Data Access Engineer, with operational experience of working within the Climate, Meteorological or Oceanographic environments, to join our international team of young and inspiring engineers and industry professionals, tasked with driving innovation within the Space, Satellite and Earth Observation sector. This role is routed in the mission of EUMETSAT and will provide the opportunity to work with leading IT, Space and Earth Observation organisations and domain experts to make a positive impact on society! Background The Data Centre Operations Team supports the archiving and data access services for the permanent storage of EUMETSATs satellite data and the discovery, search and access of this data by the user community. In preparation of EUMETSATs next Generation Geostationary Satellite Programme Meteosat Third Generation, MTG the Archive and Data Access Engineer will play a key role in ensuring the successful and complete routine archiving of data and products from MTG satellites and their access by the users. Experience in the following would be advantageous Handson experience with Earth Observation data and formats e.g. netCDF, HDF, BUFR, GRIB Experience in using XML for the definition of metadata, specification of configuration files, and data format representation Use of automated Software Test Tools for regression testing of new software releases e.g. JUnit, QF Test Languages Candidates must be able to work effectively in English and some knowledge of French is desirable.

Successful customer engagement providing delivery solutions, preferably using cloud computing technologies. GNULinux command line capability. Familiarity with Openstack and VMware vSphere services with particular depth in those used to orchestrate automate the provisioning of resources. Experience in configuration management utilities and tools like Ansible, Puppet, Chef, etc. Experienced with systems and IT operations. Understanding of virtual machines, GNULinux containers and their application. Ability to select, use, deploy and maintain a wide variety of open source technologies and tools.
