The first in the series, Sentinel1, carries an advanced radar instrument to provide an allweather, dayandnight supply of imagery of Earths surface. The first of two spacecraft was launched in 2014. The second, Sentinel2, is a polarorbiting, multispectral highresolution imaging mission for land monitoring to provide, for example, imagery of vegetation, soil and water cover, inland waterways and coastal areas. Sentinel2 will also deliver information for emergency services. Sentine1 and Sentinel2 spacecraft will be operated from ESOC, in Darmstadt, Germany. More information on the Copernicus missions can be found here httpwww.esa.intOurActivitiesObservingtheEarthCopernicus Responsibilities We are looking for qualified Spacecraft Operations Engineers SOE to be part of the flight control teams supporting Sentinel1 and Sentinel2 spacecraft operations engineering services. The tasks to be performed are those typical for a spacecraft operations engineer, which include familiarizing with the mission characteristics, defining requirements for flight control systems, preparing and validating flight control procedures, validating ground systems used for operations, participating in spacecraft interface tests, and spacecraft performance analysis. Each SOE will be responsible for specific areas of the spacecraft or ground systems operations engineering. These areas are grouped together as follows 1. Optical communications payloads laser links, Sentinels OCP, etc operations engineering and guidance and navigation AOCS operations engineering 2. Optical communications payloads operations planning and overall ground segment verification engineering 3. Optical imaging sensors especially in the area of spectrometry, e.g. GOME, SCIMACHY, TROPOMI operations preparation andor execution, including Xband and PDHU data storage subsystem management 4. Spacecraft data handling operations engineering and overall ground segment verification 5. General platform andor instruments operational support for operations preparation and execution 6. Sentinels product assurance quality assurance engineering Depending on the specific area of responsibility, the SOE positions within the Sentinels missions typically include the following some or all of the following responsibilities Validation, test and operation of the ground Mission Control System, including the Onboard Software Management subsystem and Mission Planning System Validation, test and operation of the Sentinel operational Spacecraft Simulator Generation, validation and maintenance of the Flight Operations Plan FOP Support to test and operation of the NDIUs, PSS and other operational support tools Support for FOS procurement, integration, user acceptance testing and system testing. Review of satellite documents Maintenance of the FOS spacecraft document library Support for the generation of FOS documentation, i.e. requirements, ICDs, test plansreports etc. Support to FCT training activities including generation of training material Support to spacecraft and ground segment AR resolution Support to the preparation and execution of the Satellite Validation Test SVT campaign LEOP support Commissioning support for the satellite subsystem Routine Phase operational support including Responsible for assigned satellite subsystems The performance of Mission Planning operations, The preparation and execution of orbit control manoeuvres and any other daily and weekly operations activities. Support to Secure commanding operations These are full time positions, located at ESOC in Darmstadt, Germany, and starting in January 2016. Qualifications Competencies This position requires a person with University degree or similar in engineering, physics or related subject.
