Sentinel3 is a Low Earth Orbiting mission in the context of the Copernicus Services set up by the European Commission. The first satellite, Sentinel3A, is expected to launch mid2015 with the second satellite Sentinel3B operating in tandem and due for launch 18 months later. EUMETSATs monitors and controls Sentinel 3 satellites and generates near realtime and offline products to support the marine user community. The Data Processing System Engineer is mainly to the PDGS Data Processing System and Framework within the Data Processing Team of the SEP Division at EUMETSAT. TASKS The Data Processing System engineers LO to L2, DFEP shall support the Sentinel3 Operations with respect to EUMETSATs Marine Payload Data Ground Segment PDGS maintenance in particular anomaly correction and software release process and necessary evolutions, including the necessary coordination of the data processing systems engineering for the related interfaces with the rest of the Sentinel3 ground segment. The Key Persons duties will include a range of tasks, from preparing and providing the support of the day to day operation and maintenance currently in the preparation phase, the analysis, and testing of the facilities which also includes the handling of anomalies, design of upgrades and configuration changes for these facilities. The Key Persons will be the focal point when it comes to integrating the individual SW Facilities into a data processing system, covering all aspects of system integration and testing, including endtoend testing of the production system. Tasks will also contain the settingup and implementation of maintenance policies and procedures as well as the coordination with external providers of maintenance services. This may also entail the participation in the specification and development of specific monitoring tools for S3. In support to operations, the Key Person may also be required to provide on call support as part of a team of maintenance engineers, especially for the S3 commissioning and initial operations phases. PROFILE The consultants shall have the following background Adequate to the requested category N years experience in maintaining and engineering of evolutions of large scale software systems missioninstrument data processing related. Experience in software development lifecycles Software debugging and profiling tools e.g. GDB, DBX, IBM Purify, Valgrind Source code control systems, preferably Subversion and CVS Competence in SW testing, unit test suite maintenance, automated testing, verification and validation. And the following specific technical skills and experience Experience with production frameworks, job and resource management SW Performance analysis and improvement including Performance monitoring tools and techniques top, NMON, iostat, sar etc. in UNIX environments TCPIP, UDP multicast, PGM, FTP, Wireshark Use of and application programming of relational database systems in particular ORACLE, INFORMIX, PostgreSQL and MySQL CCJava programming language experience in a UNIXLinux based environment Knowledge of Scripting languages Python, Perl, TclTk, shell Knowledge of web technologies, programming and markup languages e.g. Apache, CGI, JavaScript, XML and related technologies XPATH, SVG, etc. The official languages of EUMETSAT are English and French. PROFILE Scientific support consultancy is sought mainly in the areas of optical imaging for oceanography products, in particular for Ocean Colour products. The engineer shall have the following mandatory experience and background University degree in remote sensing, oceanography, physics, or equivalent Good interpersonal skills in support of team work A 5 year or longer experience with satellite Ocean Colour Handson experience with the calibration and the validation of remote sensing products Hands on experience with the development of calibration and product validationmethods and tools Familiarity with the precursor to the Sentinel3 Ocean Colour mission Experience with operational satellite data processing Mandatory 5 years of scientific programming skills C, IDLPVWAVE and ENVIor equivalent Skills in writing technical and scientific documents Familiarity with Linux programming environment and Microsoft Office.
