Consultancy Support for MHS and NOAA Instruments Engineering Activities

ACS is looking for the key person to provide Support to MHS and NOAA Instruments Engineering Activities. The foreseenstart date is ASAP. ACS has more than 30 years experience in delivering solutions for Earth Observation satellites Ground Segments. Based in Rome, Italy and in Darmstadt, Germany, we delivered systems currently in operation in 20 countries worldwide and have a long record of successful projects carried out for ESA, EUMETSAT, EMSA and many other Space Agencies and Research Centres. The tasks of the MHS and NOAA Instruments Engineer shall include the following Participation to Metop satellite AIV, Launch and Commissioning activities relevant to the MHS and NOAA instruments, including operation of the MHS EGSE, data analysis, preparation of procedures and test reports instrument ground testing at sc level, endtoend testing at system level, satellite inorbit verification. Maintenance of an uptodate plan of Metop satellite AIV, Launch and Commissioning activities requiring support for the MHS and the NOAA instruments. Follow up all activities related to MHS carried out by the Airbus DSUK and maintain a list of PDS activities and their status and expenditures. Follow up of all activities related to the NOAA instruments including AVHRR and SEM instruments onground calibration. Support inorbit checkout verification tests during MetopC In Orbit Verification IOV. Investigation of onground and inorbit instrument anomalies and support operations to the relevant recovery actions. Provide general support to the Metop Operations Team for MHS and NOAA instruments matters. Analyse and assess both onground and inorbit performances of MHS and NOAA instruments. Participation to instrument reviews and other meetings with industry and other partners such as ESA, NOAANASA. Maintenance of regular contacts with the above mentioned EUMETSAT partners and industry in relation to MHS and NOAA instruments. Maintenance of a status list of MHS action items, nonconformancesanomalies, requests for waivers and deviations. Preparation and maintenance of instrument related documents, as well as presentation material e.g. Instrument Operational Manuals Support to other Instruments Although support to MHS and NOAA instruments is the primary task of the Key person, heshe may be requested to provide a similar type of management and engineering support to the LEO Instrument Team Leader for other instruments. Required skills The Key person is required to have the experience and capability to fulfil the assigned tasks with the minimum of supervision and minimum training. The Key person shall have a university degree in engineering or physics and, as a pre requisite, a background of at least 5 years in space hardware projects possibly with Earth observation instruments. Experience in project management positions is desirable together with the ability to follow satellite level Payload AIV activities. The Key person shall also have some knowledge of PAQA processes and procedures and good general computing skills, with familiarity with Microsoft Office software Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.. Previous experience in AIVAIT and commissioning activities is regarded as advantageous along with experience of working on a collaborative programme between different partners. The official languages of EUMETSAT are English and French. The working language for the position is English and therefore the Key person must be able to work effectively in this language and have some knowledge of the other. Computer Support Operations Engineer

Aurora is an established supplier of skilled manpower to ESA and in particular at ESTEC and ESAC. Aurora has the opportunity to expand our support to Gaia within the Science and Robotic Exploration Directorate DSRE. Aurora currently has a team of more than 20 engineers and scientists at ESAC including 3 in the Computer Support Group CSG itself. Overview This work is to provide a number of specialised services to support ESA in Computer System Engineering at ESAC for the missions science operations centres. The SREO Computer Support Group CSG is providing computer support to all science operations centres and science ground segments located at ESAC, either in development or in operational phase. Under this work package, service shall be provided to support ESA in system administration activities for those computer systems used for science operations and research activities. These computers are general servers or workstations mainly based on Linux and Oracle Solaris, Macintoshes, Technical PCs and for Office Automation activities. The environment also includes Disk Storage infrastructure, Virtual infrastructure as well as GRID and Cloud computing infrastructures. Systems can be physical machines or provided through virtual infrastructure. These systems are connected to networks organized by functions operational, office and development, external services, GRID, Cloud and administration networks. Specific tasks would include installation, configuration, deployment, integration, monitoring, administration and maintenance of these computer systems, scientific and commercial software installation and administration, data backup and retrieval, interface with IT vendors for quotation, installation and maintenance agreements, users IT support, defining and operating computers operational procedures, hardware inventory tracking. It specifically excludes ESA corporate informatics infrastructure services office automation, network, terminal servers, Lotus Notes, LAN and communications, which are provided and subject to separate Service Level Agreements SLA. Specific Service Tasks UNIX LINUX and SOLARIS, Macintosh and PC System management Installation, configuration, integration and setting up of new machines with appropriate operating systems and layered software Administration and operation management of computer systems System security management System upgrades, both physical and logical. User support mainly scientists and engineers Handle the mail aliases and mail distribution list. Handlingcheckingmodifying all backups. Definition, implementation and maintenance of computer operators procedures Issues of documentation and technical reports GRID related activities Installation, configuration, integration, operations, maintenance and upgrade of Grid Engine Support users to adapt their computing tasks to the GRID infrastructure Cloud related activities Installation, configuration, integration, operations, maintenance and upgrade of Eucalyptus Cloud middleware Knowledge of other Cloud middleware is an asset Contact with hardware and software suppliers Definition of hardwaresoftware needs and quotation requests for new purchases and maintenance contracts Locking hardware incidents calls and following the call history. Good interpersonal and communication skills, together with a proactive attitude to problem solving and customer focus are required. Legal and Security Requirements All applicants must be legally allowed to work in Spain without the need to obtain a work visa. Only European Union citizens can be employed by Aurora in Spain. Applicants are required to provide a copy of their passport and degree certificate. Aurora will validate the Degree with the issuing University and provide evidence to ESA. In line with ESAs security requirements, prior to issuing a letter of employment the applicant shall provide to Aurora a recent official document declaring that they are of good conduct from the country where currently resident, and Aurora will validate your employment history. Location It is expected that the work will be performed at the ESAC, the European Space Astronomy Centre, at Villafranca del Castillo, near Madrid, Spain. Contract You will be registered for both social security and tax in Spain. The standard working hours are 40 per week including sometimes support in the evenings and weekends. TASKS The general role of the key person will be the provision of engineering and testing support to the MTG Verification and Validation Team Leader in the frame of the Phase CDE1 of the MTG Programme, and contribute to all phases of the IVV programmes introduced above Planning, Execution and Control Closeout. The key duties will be the preparation, execution coordination including results analyses of the MTG MC Chain system VV tests. Also support the complete MTG system IVV testing, including support to the System Validation Tests and Operational Scenario Validation. The key person shall work in close coordination with Ops Prep Team and Ground Segment Teams. The tasks of the System MC test coordinator key person will typically include the following tasks in a time wise sequence Incrementally develop and maintain System MC Test Specification, test cases from the highlevel definition contained in System VV Plans, inline with the System Design, the Operations Concept and the status of definition of the associated test tools Participate to system satellite simulator and test tools acceptance, prepare for the test tool usage and associated test data generation in coordination with Simulator Officer Contribute to the preparation and the execution of the MTG System Validation Tests with successive MTG satellite models for the verification of the associated requirements Plan for, coordinate, prioritize and lead the execution of the System MC Tests Generate test reports, verification records, substantiate associated anomaliesnon compliances, and perform postanalysis of the test results in liaison with Ops Prep Team and MC specialists Contribute to Test Readiness, Test Review Boards and Anomaly Review Boards Contribute to the preparation of the All Chains Test Specification, test cases. Support their test execution and test results analyses Support dryrun and formal execution of the Operational Scenarios Validation tests. The Key Person may be required to work in a shift pattern andor at weekends during the performance of the contract. Any shift or weekend working will be agreed in advance as part of the work package description. The tasks assigned to the Key person will be agreed through dedicated workpackages with clear identification of activities and outputs expected. In the performance of these tasks, the key person shall apply the relevant organizational and programmatic quality management procedures as well as the relevant system engineering standards.
