Cloud Networking Engineer, Cloud Practice

The Cloud Networking Engineer will be part of a Cloud Practice team forming and executing the larger SES strategy for satellite enabled cloud networking and cloud solutions. This role offers an opportunity to collaborate with leading cloud, telco, and satellite service providers to bring connectivity and education to ultrarural areas, support government sponsored humanitarian missions, and connect everything from ships and planes to island nations and beyond. Working with various SES functions, SES partners, and SES customers, the role entails translating market and customer requirements into network designs and solutions that underpin cloud computing infrastructures, as well as underpin cloud hosted platforms and applications. PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES KEY RESULT AREAS As a part of the larger Cloud Practice team, the role involves the following activities Understanding market and customer requirements for networking distributed cloud infrastructure, cloudbased platforms, and cloudbased applications, and translating these to network designs Designing, costing, and specifying endtoend networking solutions, taking several considerations in to account The use of multiple networking technologies and multiple layers of the OSI networking stack Layer 17, with particular focus on Ethernet, IP, TCP networking. Crossdomain interfaces and functionality between SES satellite and terrestrial network domains and other customer, network provider, and cloud service provider domains Data center networking, including data center interconnect and peering functions i.e., Ethernet Exchange, Internet Exchange, etc. Network performance requirements for distributed cloud infrastructure, platforms, and applications, including latency and throughput needs Applying network virtualization technologies SDN, NVF as well as Orchestration and Automation systems in support of cloud enabled networking solutions for SES customers and partners Assisting in SESs transformation towards a Cloud Native service delivery infrastructure, including virtualization of satellite terminals, modems, ground stations and other supporting functions Incorporating new architecture, designs, and systems into ongoing operations SES as well as SES customers Peering with SES customers network engineering and architecture teams in support of solution design and specification for cloud networking solutions COMPETENCIES The role requires knowledge of and skills in a significant number of the following areas Cloud Networking, Cloud Infrastructure, andor Cloud based services and applications, especially as relates to use cases and implied architectural requirements, applicable industry standards, APIs, orchestration requirements, and security frameworks Sound knowledge of Cloud technology, Infrastructure and Networking services from major Cloud Service Providers i.e., Azure, AWS, GCP, IBM Cloud, including IaaS and PaaS Telco Cloud architectures, including virtualization SDN, NFV, Orchestration solutions and delivery of next generation communication services i.e., 5G, IoT from cloud native infrastructure Data Center networking architectures, including data center interconnect networks and intradata center rack and server networking Server, Storage, Hypervisor infrastructure architectures including distributed solutions e.g., VMWare vMotion, etc. Key cloud platforms and service catalogues, i.e., Microsoft Azure, Amazon AWS, etc. Key cloud solution building blocks, i.e., SQL, Docker, Hadoop, Spark, EMR, RedShift, Kinesis, etc. Layer 2 protocols e.g., MEF Ethernet, Layer 3 networking with IP, as well as routing protocols such as OSPFISIS, BGP, and MPLS Familiarity with common enterprise services i.e., Directory Services, Information Assurance, Virtual Desktop, etc. and products i.e., Oracle, SAP, especially how these are distributed and networked Satellitebased data networking architectures and services QUALIFICATION EXPERIENCE The role requires a significant number of the following qualifications At least 10 years experience in the Telecom, SatCom, or Cloud Service Provider industry in one or more of the following areas Solution Design, Solution Engineering, Sales Engineering, RD Engineering, Network Engineering Proven track record of successful definition and specification of solutions and architectures oriented to TelcoMNO, Satellite Service ProviderIntegrator, andor Cloud Service Provider customers. Experience in a multinational organization, covering strategic, technical, commercial and marketing aspects Bachelors Degree or higher or equivalent in either Engineering or Computer Science with focus on NetworkingITCloud Solutions Fluency in English. Profile Mandatory skills and relevant experience in University degree in the domain of engineering, physics or equivalent. Proven experience in the verification and validation of large complex systems, with at least 3 years of general experience with onground processing of data from satellite instruments for Earth observation. Handson involvement in data circulation VV activities including generation of test plan, test specification, procedures and test reports for endtoend processing chains. At least 3 years of experience with software specification, design and development and relevant standards. Some experience with definition and development of test tools and generation of test data sets. System requirements management and functionalarchitectural modelling, with support of tools e.g. DOORS.
