OneWeb requires a selfmotivated individual to provide expert guidance and leadership with regards to all aspects of satellite communications payload engineering. Initially based at the OneWeb Satellites in Florida with our team of onsite engineers, working with the OneWeb Satellites team and in strict contact with satellite and equipment suppliers to ensure that the OneWeb satellites are delivered in compliance with the requirements, on schedules and with the correct quality. Review, assessment and recommendation of supplier data from bid through design, manufacture and test to final delivery will be a prime task. Responsibilities Oversee unit and payload level manufacturing Support the definition of the unit and payload test activities and processes for data review for an unprecedented satellite production rate Review and approve test data for units and payload from qualification phase to in orbit test Support OneWeb communications payload design and development activities Participate in satellite test campaigns and delivery reviews to ensure that OneWebs requirements are fulfilled Manage contractor for timely resolution on communications subsystem technical problems Support new space infrastructure procurement tasks with all related industrialization activities Provide timely reporting to management for critical and routine activities Knowledge and Skills At least 10 years experience in communications payload design, manufacture and test from equipment level through to spacecraft level Solid understanding of how requirements flow down from payload design in order to interact with the system team in addressing noncompliances In depth knowledge of all technologies associated with communications payloads, including SSPAs, OMUX, frequency generator, onboard digital channelization and beamforming The analysis of supplier data and presentation of performance e.g. GT, EIRP, linearity etc Indepth understanding and handson capabilities for the testing of communication equipment, communications payloads and spacecraft The ability to discuss and contribute to the mechanical and thermal aspects of the payload in case of anomalies Provide leadership for communications payload developments for OneWeb programmes Good knowledge and understanding of satellite assembly integration test processes Excellent writing and reporting skills Excellent communication skills with people at all levels of the organization. Weve had significant involvement in over 210 space missions and operate at the forefront of UK Space Research. RAL Space is leading the technical development of the payload for the ARIEL space mission, a major ESA Mclass science mission M4 for launch in 2028 to study the atmospheres of exoplanets. It is the first mission dedicated to measuring the chemical composition and thermal structures of hundreds of transiting exoplanets, enabling planetary science far beyond the boundaries of the Solar System. We are seeking an outstanding technical leader to join the team as the systems engineering lead engineering manager for the payload consortium consisting of teams in institutes and industries in 15 countries. You will work with the engineering teams at RAL, throughout the UK and in partner organisations around Europe to define, design, develop, build and test the payload consisting of a 1mclass space telescope, photometer and infrared spectrometer instruments and associated electronic and cryogenic systems.
