Lead System Engineer for GEO Satellites

We are currently looking for a Lead System Engineer for GEO Satellites to support our customer in Germany. Lead System Engineer for GEO Satellites Key Tasks and Responsibilities Our customer is a European leading system house, specialized in development and implementation of high technology solutions for aerospace, science and industry. In this role you will have the following responsibilities System engineer for the development and integration of optical GEO satellites Technical responsibility for the satellite system integrity, including mission satellite performance, requirements engineering, design and performance engineering, satellite configuration, interface control for satellite subsystems and payloads, engineering budget control Managing the different engineering disciplines and satellite subsystems Definition of the verification philosophy from system to component level and definition of the assembly, integration and verification plan on system level, ensuring consistency with subsystem level and payload developments Planning, coordination and control of the overall design and development process, including monitoring and control of engineering activities related to satellite subsystems and payloads as well as procurement activities Focal point for lower level system engineers satellite subsystem and payload lead engineers Leading an engineering team within the project, including management of subcontractors involved in system level activities. Skills Experience You will have the following qualifications and relevant experience University degree or equivalent in aerospace engineering, space technology, electronic engineering, mechanical engineering, physics or other relevant field More than 10 years of professional experience in the space industry as satellite lead system engineer, system engineer or in similar roles Experience of at least one full CD phase of a GEO Satellite Excellent conceptual and analytical skills Accustomed to work in teams with welldeveloped communication skills Ideally, experience in ESA or commercial satellite development projects Fluency in English is mandatory knowledge of German is an advantage. Lead Test Bench Engineer

A lead test bench engineer with excellent software skills in CJava and demonstrated experience in a technical leadership role is being recruited by Astrium in Stevenage. The successful applicant will be working on the development of highfidelity numerical simulators and hardware in the loop test benches. As a technical lead you will be responsible for managing and coordinating the technical activities of the development team while making actual technical contributions to the project. You will be responsible for ensuring the technical consistency, the successful development, integration, testing and delivery of the test benches within the project constraints. The Satellite FVI, Engineering Tools Control Ground Segment division is responsible for the development of highfidelity numeric simulators and Hardware In the Loop HIL test benches for space programs. The numeric simulators include software models of the system while the HIL test benches consist of a realtime simulator with the front end electrical interfaces to the hardware equipments. Development is across different company sites, with the prime team based in the UK and Astrium teams in France andor Germany providing specific elements. The work takes place in small development teams 46 people relying on specific expertise from key members of the team, able to collaborate on the design and to take responsibility for specific aspects of the project. This role reports directly to the project and to the department manager. You should be able to travel within Europe for short periods of time. Primary Responsibilities 1. Technical Provide technical management and guidance to the development team throughout the lifecycle of the project Requirements engineering, Software design and architecture, Software implementation and testing, System integration and verification, System delivery and acceptance Work as a technical expert in specific areas of the project to provide actual technical contributions for the development of the benches Act as a single technical interface to the project stakeholders to ensure global understanding of technical requirements and constraints together with their impact on the development Conduct code reviews and inspections Provide technical coaching foster a collaborative environment Ensure use of standards and good practices within the team, to maintain the quality of the product throughout the development 2. NonTechnical Project planning, estimation, definition and allocation of work packages Perform risk management, dynamically adjusting team plans Measuring progress status reporting issue escalation and resolution scope management Ensure effective communication with all stakeholders and distributed teams Develop strong relationships with customers. Secondary Responsibilities Definition of training plans to enhance the technical skills of the team Review and participate in proposals. The successful applicant will have the following skills and experience Degree in computer science, software engineering, or other engineering related discipline Thorough understanding of software and systems development lifecycles Excellent knowledge of OO concepts and advanced C programming techniques Excellent experience in software development using C, Java and ideally with CORBA Working knowledge of one or more of the following data buses SpaceWire, MilSTD 1553, CAN bus Working knowledge in multithreading programming is highly desirable Working knowledge of software development on Linux OS ideally Real Time Linux and Microsoft Windows platforms Working knowledge of software development tools based on Eclipse. Knowledge of the ECSS software standards is desirable. Experience in the technical lead role for small to medium development teams Experience in the development of numeric or hardwareinthe loop test benches Experience in the entire software lifecycle from requirements, design, development, integration, testing and customer delivery and acceptance Experience in project control managing subcontractors is highly desirable Leadership skills ability to lead and motivate teams team oriented Ability to comprehend and address the broader picture Able to delegate work efficiently Excellent communication and meeting skills Proactive and honest engagement with customers Selfmotivated, autonomous and effective. The successful candidate will be responsible for leading the mechanical design for Airborne and Naval Satcom terminal design and development. The terminals include the design and engineering of servo controlled gimballed satellite communication antenna assembly for military applications, along with below deck 19 rack mounted control equipment, and airborne ARINC electronic enclosures. The key responsibilities of the role are as follows To manage a small mechanical design team, to deliver On Time On Cost On Quality development programmes for both live Customer Projects and RD new terminals, working within a multidisciplined delivery team To champion lean approach to product development, and grow the talent and capability within the team Responsible as the overall Mechanical Design Authority for all TP products.
