ESAs commitment to Space Debris Mitigation includes, among others, the software tool suite to validate adherence to mitigation requirements DRAMA Debris Risk Assessment and Mitigation Analysis, a database in support of space situational awareness and collision avoidance DISCOS Database and Information System Characterising Objects in Space, and various websites serving as interfaces to the above mentioned software services. The service shall comprise of the software engineering aspects related to the maintenance of SDOs software services for both ESA internal and external customers, in terms of bug fixing, minor feature development based on requests, testing, and integration with SDO internal processes. The Space Debris Software Engineer SDSS shall actively deliver services to the Space Debris Office SDO in all aspects of Unit and accepting testing of new and existing software Integration and verification of software services, both in development and operationally Implementing quality assurance and maintenance of the existing and future software services Data management and processing for existing and future software services. Key Responsibilities acting as an interface for the SDO and ESA internal and external customers visvis software issues, including but not limited to bug tracking, feature requested, roadmap planning. The major software services available at the SDO, including but not limited to ESA DRAMA, DISCOS, and both application programming API and web interfaces to the later, shall be covered by the SDSS. software development activities, in close cooperation with the relevant teams within the SDO. design and implement roadmaps for the software services under its quality assurance and maintenance responsibility based on feedback from the endusers and taking into account separate developments and research within the SDO. To this end, the key person can be included in further activities including but not limited to participation in technical meetings, reviews and acceptance of deliverables, followup of contractor actions, preparation of status reports and presentations, and coordination with the software development and operations team within the SDO or external when applicable. The SDSS shall provide user support within the domain of their activities. To fulfil the technical requirements associated with this service request, the SDSS shall take the form of the implementation part of an issue tracking system in operation within the SDO. Requirements University degree in a relevant engineering field, mathematics, or physics Skills to apply their knowledge to develop solutions to technical mathematical and dynamical and programmatic software problems in cooperation with customers and other experts, in line with the Specific Requirements. Ability to define, implement, validate, test, and operate software which applies the above solutions Will to take responsibility in multidiscipline teams Fluency in English, both in speech and writing Coordinate and interact with other service providers in operations and other fields. Ability to work independently Experience with Windows and Linux, network services and protocols, and system administration Software development proficiency in Python, Fortran, and Postresql Software development experience as lead programmer as well as part of a team. Software development experience with development cycles and version control Familiarity with the ESOC environment Familiarityexperience with Space Debris engineering tasks, including user experience for DISCOS and DRAMA. Experience dealing with external interfaces Experience with AppleMac, network services and protocols, and system administration The ability to multitask efficiently working on multiple activities, and multiple subsystems simultaneously. Cassandra Software Engineer

This is a 6 month fixed term employment position, calling for experience of the Apache Cassandra database management system. You will be placed on assignment based near Munich in Germany. Our client is a 16nation intergovernmental research organisation for astronomy. The main working language is English. The Atacama Large Millimetersubmillimeter Array ALMA, an international partnership of Europe, North America and East Asia in cooperation with the Republic of Chile, is the largest astronomical project in existence. ALMA is a single telescope of revolutionary design, composed of 66 high precision antennas located on the Chajnantor plateau, at 5000 meters altitude in northern Chile. All antennas are now at the ALMA site and the Observatory is transitioning towards fullscale science operations. A software engineer is sought to assist in the setup of a Cassandra cluster to store, and allow querying of, timeseries data from the hardware of the ALMA radio telescope in Chile. Readings are stored from 200,000 sensors, at a rate of up to one per second A test cluster of 6 servers is already in place and assistance is needed to improve this cluster, optimise the configuration, understand any issues, and help to draft operational procedures in conjunction with the operations team in Chile. Assistance is also needed in finding the optimal schema to store the data in a performant, flexible way. A secondary role would be to modify client code for accessing the data. The key experience and attributes sought are Experience of Cassandra is a must from configuration to schema design. An understanding of lowerlevel issues such as Linux and storage configuration is a plus. A logical and thorough way of approaching problems is essential as is the ability to communicate clearly in English. Nicetohave skills include Java development and knowledge of Apache Spark Candidates should possess a University degree or equivalent.
