Main responsibilities You will support the design, prototyping, operational implementation and validation of the product algorithms. The work is carried out in a small project team consisting of relevant experts. You will also be involved in the analysis and resolution of anomalies relating to the product generation software. In particular your tasks will typically include Maintenance and extension of a prototyping system Implementation, possible optimisation and validation of new and updated algorithms Acceptance and implementation of third party algorithm software into the prototyping system Preparation of technical notes on implementation issues and user guides, installation notes for the prototyping system Monitoring and operating the product generation facilities both for future ground segments or currently for the MSG MPEF Visualisation and analysis of geophysical products. Ideal candidate In addition to having a University degree or equivalent in a relevant discipline, such as computer science, physics, mathematics or remote sensing, you should shall have minimum of 5 years of experience in operational product generation from satellite remote sensing data. In addition, experience in validation of geophysical products from satellite data is highly desirable. Furthermore, you should have practical, demonstrable experience with Algorithm software development using FORTRAN 9095 Intel GNULinux and or IBM POWER AIX environments, Implementation of scientific algorithms from a given specification and their documentation IDL programming language and object oriented aspects Common meteorological data formats, i.e., BUFR, GRIB, HDF5, and netCDF Coding and operation of optimal estimation methods for geophysical product retrieval from satellite data Installing and running radiative transfer models for infrared and visible wavelengths Authoring clear and concise technical documentation. You should be able to conduct all activities in an orderly and disciplined manner, should be able to work calmly and correctly under stress and must be able to work with the minimum of supervision. You are required to support a team and may be called upon to present your, therefore good communication skills are a necessity. The official languages of EUMETSAT are English and French. The working language for the position is English and therefore you must be able to work effectively in this language. Desirables Practical, demonstrable experience of the following will be advantageous Experience using the community RTTOV model from the EUMETSAT NWPSAF Anomaly correction processes Source code control systems Subversion and or git.
