Scope The MTG Ground Segment System Engineer is sought to support ground segmentrelated activities for the phase CD of the MTG programme. The phase CD has started since the completion of the ground segment Preliminary Design Review May 2012 and is completing at the Qualification Review presently planned mid2018. The duties range from specification, analysis, design, build, deployment and subsequent verification. The activities for this consultancy relate to the ground segment, consisting of the data acquisition systems, monitoring and control systems, data processing and archiving facilities product dissemination facilities and the encompassing network elements. The MTG Ground Segment System Engineer will perform typical system engineering activities such as Requirements engineering, which consists in requirement analysis and validation, requirement allocation, and requirement maintenance System analysis, which is performed for the purpose of resolving requirements conflicts, decomposing and allocating requirements, assessing system effectiveness Performance of trade studies for assessing effectiveness, risk, cost and planning Design, build and configuration which results in a physical architecture, described by its complete functional, physical and software characteristics Integration and verification, which final objective is to demonstrate that the deliverables conform to the specified requirements. Profile MANDATORY SKILLS The MTG Ground Segment System Engineer shall have the following experience and background University degree or equivalent in the domain of engineering or science At least 5 years of experience in the field of engineering of spacerelated ground systems, including good experience in any two of i Networking Communications, ii Ground Stations, iii Near RealTime Data Processing, iv Monitoring and control of satellites, v Monitoring and control of ground systems and an overview of the other three items Experience in systemlevel analyses from an endtoend perspective, understanding relevant details while keeping the focus on the overall system aspects and presenting the results in a comprehensible way Experience in preparation of system requirements and design documentation Experience in the integration and verification of such systems. Description Inhouse consultancy support is sought for the ongoing scientific activities in preparation for a future 3MI mission to be flown on the EUMETSAT Polar System Second Generation. The consultant will provide support within the Atmospheric Composition Team in the Remote Sensing and Products RSP Division of EUMETSAT, located in Darmstadt, Germany. Heshe will be fully integrated in the Atmospheric Composition Team and will interface with inhouse experts of various disciplines system, instruments, operations, cience, and in particular members of the PostEPS Science Team within the RSP Division. Profile The consultant shall have the experience and capability to fulfil the assigned tasks with a minimum of supervision. The consultant shall have a university degree in meteorology, atmospheric physics, remote sensing, or equivalent. Heshe shall have a minimum of three years experience in the field of remote sensing. Specific Requirements The Key person shall have preferably a University degree in Information Technology or comparable discipline or equivalent professional experience together with 3 years of experience as IT Infrastructure and Network Engineer in a demanding and heterogeneous computing environment. The Key person is required to have as a minimum Experience in operation and maintenance of Technical rooms. Knowledge of power distribution systems and cooling systems. Hand on experience in operating a Network cabling infrastructure configuration control, patching, media type etc. Working knowledge of and experience in the installation, operation and maintenance of KVM systems. Working knowledge of and experience in power distribution and UPS solutions. Knowledge of and experience in operation and maintenance of a network infrastructure based on Cisco components. Hands on experience in the operation and maintenance of Wireless LAN Infrastructure Hands on experience in the operation of network monitoring tools In addition, the following aspects shall be considered an advantage Hands on experience in using CISCO Works to operate and monitor the network system Experience in a structured, ISO 9000 certified project and service environment Knowledge of ITIL and hands on experience in change and configuration management. The variety of the tasks requires a high degree of autonomy and the close interaction with users of the IT environment requires good communication skills and a customer oriented approach with some experience coordinating IT related projects.
